Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,

a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,

a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak,

a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

  3. 3. Two Extremes of Life a time to be born and a time to die , (Ecclesiastes 3:2)

We are conscious of birth.

We celebrate a birthday

We are happy with a new baby

We should also be conscious of our death

Where will we go when we die?

“ Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,” (Hebrews 9:27)

God’s answer: “ For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

  4. 4. Time for Work a time to plant and a time to uproot , (Ecclesiastes 3:2)

It could refer to planting in agriculture. There is a time to plant a time to harvest.

It could also be a time to work and a time to rest.

It could also be a time to think where you want to live and plant your family. And then where will you go next.

In any case we need the Lord’s guidance.
  5. 5. Time for Choices a time to kill and a time to heal , (Ecclesiastes 3:3)

The word “kill” here does not mean murder. But justified killing in wars or punishment like death penalty.

Is death penalty biblical?

“ "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.” (Genesis 9:6)

“ If, however, I am guilty of doing anything deserving death, I do not refuse to die. But if the charges brought against me by these Jews are not true, no one has the right to hand me over to them. I appeal to Caesar!" (Acts 25:11)

No vigilante but through lawful means (Exodus 21:1)
  6. 6. Time for Choices a time to kill and a time to heal , (Ecclesiastes 3:3)

We should also discern if it is a time to heal.

Instead of fighting is it time and more Christ like now to do a particular act.

Remember we are called to suffer.

In any case we need the Lord’s guidance.

  12. 12. What Is God Trying To Say here? 9 What does the worker gain from his toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.
