    6. 6. In the Beginning... • Julian had written a few blog entries on Web Services • Bruce approached Julian to do an interview • Episode One was born • First podcast on November 3, 2005 • Web Services Part 1 • Podcasting was still in it’s infancy
    7. 7. and Four Years Later • 100 shows • A loyal listener base • Fame and fortune • many Lotus employees and Lotus community members have appeared on the show
    8. 8. Creating a Show • Decide on a show topic and date to record • Put a high level agenda together • Invite guests - experts, gurus, and business partners • Once all of the guests are lined up create final agenda
    9. 9. Recording a Show • We use Skype • Skype has some very cool conference call features • We can also dial out to land-lines • Call Recorder for Skype captures the audio
    10. 10. Equipment • A good headset and microphone makes all of the difference • Julian uses a Sennheiser 166USB (mic and earphones) • Bruce uses a Behringer B1 microphone and a Logitech USB headset
    11. 11. Tips • Don’t use a wireless connection • Ensure guests aren’t using built in laptop microphones or [horror] a speakerphone • Turn off cell phones • Unplug nearby telephones • Ensure your spouse keeps the dogs quiet
    12. 12. Post Production • Raw audio file is sent through “The Levelator” • Levels out audio levels so everybody’s volume is equal • The Conversations Network http://conversationsnetwork.org
    13. 13. Putting it all Together • We use GarageBand by Apple • Comes with every Macintosh (part of iLife) • Drag/drop audio pieces into place • Announcements • Sponsor advertisements • Bumpers and other special effects • Tweak / cut / dub audio when necessary
