  • 7. Research Process Seminar: Term 1. Week 6, 7/11/2013 2.THE TEXT PRESENTATION AND THE TEXT SUMMARY PHOT20118 Seminar Text Presentation and Summary Submission Guidelines -How to do it? The summary should be put together from the notes that you have made as you worked through the reading, and should as far as possible be in your own words. You must stick to the word count (650 words). This demonstrates your skill at being able to sift through the material to decide which are most relevant points of the text.
  • 8. Research Process Seminar: Term 1. Week 6, 7/11/2013 2.THE TEXT PRESENTATION AND THE TEXT SUMMARY PHOT20118 Seminar Text Presentation and Summary Submission Guidelines -Why? The main purpose is to read and understand the meaning of the text and then to demonstrate you can put text's main ideas into your own words. It is possible to make quite different summaries from each text. Remember, there are no simple ‘right answers’ as such; however, being accurate in defining an issue is often a measure of how closely you have followed the author’s arguments. The evidence is in the reading and translation. You must be careful not to get caught up in flights of fancy, or in expressing your own opinion, or in giving an account of the seminar activity itself. It is the text and its ideas you are summarising.
