    • Being Practical: The Digital Divide
So people would start to spend too much time on computer devices and staying connected to web most of the time!
Who stands to Gain or Lose?
      Leading Desktop & Laptop Manufacturers
      WIN
Apple, HP, Lenovo, Acer, Dell, Sony, etc
PROBABLY THE DIGITAL DIVIDE HAS ALREADY STARTED!

    • Being Practical: But what actually is the concern?
But should the television industry be worried?NOT REALLY RIGHT NOW!
% of people hooked on to the Internet (<0.1%)
So why should this < 0.1% population be a huge concern for Television Industry?

% of people hooked on to the Television

    • Being Practical: But what actually is the concern?
But if things don’t change very soon? This happen in next 5-7 years!
% of people hooked on to the Internet (>15%)
      Because:
Technology is adopted today at amuch faster pace than it was ever before.

    • Being Practical: So is this the end?
So is it the end of Television in near future?
      TV
TV will be forced to RIP?
      Answer:
      NO!
Television is a multi-billion dollar industry and existing players will not let it die, but instead fast innovate and adapt to the consumer trends & interests.
      www.beingpractical.com pj@beingpractical.com

    • Being Practical: What will the innovation be all about?
      user
      tv
      connectivity
      personalize
      Innovation!
However, this time focus of innovation will not be hardware. It will be user. TV of Future = User+TV Programming +Connectivity+Personalize

    • Being Practical: Is this the next?
So, who is leading the way – Google TV or Apple TV?
      or
Both Google and Apple have started on the right note.
These are the first steps towards evolution of next generation Television. The future is big.Actually much BIG!
Note that Google & Apple are still external players to the world of Television media. The race for innovation heats up when existing biggies like Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and others jump in.

You will not require TV to watch TV!

    • Being Practical: The Future TV
#6: Watch TV without the TV

Essentially you don’t require a TV to watch Television!
Now you require a TV Device!
Oh! Do I have to buy another device?

#6: Watch TV without the TV
And any ‘connected device’ can act as a TV device, just like:
A TV itself Computer iPhone/iPod iPad Kindle Mobile Phone
Over a period of time, Web Standards for TV Stream will develop. They will be fast adopted by existing devices through applications.!

The Big Disruptions:Viewership, Content Producers, Advertisers and Social Influences
      www.beingpractical.com pj@beingpractical.com
      copyright: beingpractical.com
    • Being Practical: The Future TV
#7: The Big Disruption for Viewership
      Television Channels
      Web Publishers
      v/s
Television Channels will compete with every Web Publisher that is capable of
publishing content to the TV stream.
Television Channels will focus more on web production of its content and provide greater interactivity than ever before
Television shows will be created, produced and never archived as they will be available on-demand always. Each channel will have in two mode access – regular telecast or through official TV streams from the Web
      www.beingpractical.com pj@beingpractical.com
      copyright: beingpractical.com
    • Being Practical: The Future TV
#7: The Big Disruption for Content Producers
      For Content Producers
Any one, any user or any entity can launch its own content in various media formats (video, pictures, text, etc) that can be published to user’s TV Stream
Content owners or production houses can run their programs through existing television channels or enable plugging their content to TV Stream.
The cost to launch a Television Channel over web that can be plugged in to a TV Stream will be significantly lower than costs involved in launching a satellite channel today.
      www.beingpractical.com pj@beingpractical.com
      copyright: beingpractical.com
    • Being Practical: The Future TV
#7: The Big Disruption on Social Influences
      Say on Social Networks
Some TV Streams might be public, allowing users to share their TV Streams with their friends on Social Networks like Facebook
User’s friends will influence and also recommend programs or TV streams for him or her which would be accepted or rejected. The power to choose what to see will be driven by user and his social influence circle.
Users will be able to share the feedbacks and rating various programs in TV Streams in real time across Social Networks which will encourage or discourage further viewing of such programs
      www.beingpractical.com pj@beingpractical.com
      copyright: beingpractical.com
    • Being Practical: The Future TV
#7: The Big Disruption on Advertising
      Advertising Dynamics
Like Facebook allowing Fan Page advts today; Programs & TV channels will advertise for acceptance or recommendation of its programs at all levels or applications where users creates/updates/recommends TV streams for himself or for others!
Advertisers would pay higher amounts to those programs that have higher viewership within TV Streams. Otherwise too channels with higher demand will demand more advertiser money.
Interestingly , web publishers with higher acceptance for its content to user TV Streams will see additional source of revenue from advertisers beyond their website revenue. New advertiser platform(s) will help monetize these additional viewership for them!

    • Being Practical: Concluding Remarks!
      ~
      Concluding Remarks!
TV will be an digital device – connected like any other!
Users will choose their programming on TV Streams and watch where they go!
Simple standards that allow content to be published to TV will evolve
Any connected device shall be able to provide TV experience.
Dynamics of Television Industry will change. Tremendously!
