  1. 1. Dr. Erik Damen © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  2. 2. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2011 Being active has a large impact on our health Based on various studies in the US we know that: • Chronic diseases are the number one cause of death and disability. • Chronic diseases account for 75% of the US health care spending. • The World Health Organization calculates that at least 80% of all heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes and more than 40% of cancer would be prevented if people ate healthier, exercised, and stopped smoking. Hence:
  3. 3. The Pam activity management system can play an important role in health and wellness • Pam measures daily physical activity; • By just wearing it, the user gets motivated. • The Pam AM300 features: • A attractive modern design • Customizable skin • 3D sensor • Wireless connection • Pam has more than 10 years experience in the activity monitoring market Pam is the first Mobile Personal Captology tool! (Mobile Persuasion BJ Fogg & Dean Eckles (ed) 2007 Stanford University, chapter by E. Damen) © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  4. 4. A product and an on-line Coach The Pam automatically connects to the Pam web server via wireless communication to your own wireless USB receiver. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  5. 5. Data is represented in one ‘dashboard’. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013 In the graph, you can zoom and swipe. Here, your week score is compared to the goal line. If too low, the differences is converted to minutes in one of the three zones or your preferred activities. This module can be built into your own website in just a few clicks!
  6. 6. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2011 You can even zoom to day level. So that you can see how your activities are spread during the day.
  7. 7. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2011 The icons at the top select minutes in the zones, calories, weight and the goal page.
  8. 8. Features of Pam AM300 • 3D sensor technology • Wireless connection • 65x33x17 mm • Customizable skin • 1 year battery life • Memory for 2 months of 15- minutes Pam Scores, plus daily Pam Scores and zone information © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  9. 9. How the data flows through the system Pam server and database Embedded in customer’s site The Pam website © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013 Customer’s server and database SOAP/xml push protocol USB Receiver JSON
  10. 10. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2011 The customizable skin is a marketing tool
  11. 11. The Pam Score is independent of weight.Totalenergy AEE Activity energy expenditure BMR 1800-2600 kcal/day Pam = 100 x AEE BMR • AEE = activity induced energy expenditure • BMR = basal metabolic rate • For both: the heavier the higher the energy consumption. • The ratio is independent of weight. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  12. 12. Some feeling for the Pam Score... Half hour: How many points? Walking (5 km/h) 7 Running (10 km/h) 21 Nothing at all 0 !! A typical day: How many points? Office day (car commute) 7 – 10 Office day with half hour walk 15 – 20 Office day with evening sports 30 - 50 © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  13. 13. The Pam is the most accurate activity monitor 0 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 0 5 10 15 Intensity(MET) Velocity (km/h) Pam ACSM VO2 Pedometer Polar walking (2-7 km/h): N=11 running (9-12 km/h): N=10 We compared the Pam to oxygen consumption (gas analyzer), pedometer (Omron Fitbug) and Polar heart rate monitor. ACSM stands for the standard set by the American College of Sports Medicine. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  14. 14. Pam measures minutes in three activity zones Health- zone (4-7 km/h) Living- zone (1-4 km/h) Sport- zone (> 7 km/h) © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013 Each second, the Pam measures how active the user was and ‘puts’ that second in one of three boxes related to the intensity level. On Pam’s display you can find the number of minutes in each of the three zones.
  15. 15. What about behavioral change? Key learning after 13 years of Pam: © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013 You don’t change behavior by just selling a device with a website That’s why Pam has always aimed on partnerships: • Incentive program • Community program • (Human) coaching
  16. 16. The ideal mix for Health and Wellness © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013 Risc analysis On-line questionnaire plus biometric data Interventions On-line/off-line programs Incentives An incentive plan improves performance The Pam Healthy nutrition and sufficient physical activity are the basis of every wellness program. Coaching Because on-line only is too impersonal! Community Somebody looking over your shoulders has influence!
  17. 17. Partnership with beweegze © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013 ‘Redeem’ your points in a loyalty shop and buy nice stuff at a discount
  18. 18. Partnership with iGlobal Wellness © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
  19. 19. Partnerships with physiotherapists and dietitians • We enable physiotherapists and dietitians to work with the Pams to monitor and motivate their clients. • They use a back-office where they have an overview of all their Pam clients on one screen. © Move2Health Holding bv/Pam bv 2013
