  • 1. LocationBecause the country of Australia is solarge, there isnt one exact point on themap that it is located. On the east side ofAustralia, the city of Sydney is located atroughly 34 degrees south and 151 degreeseast. Whereas on the west coast, the cityof Perth is marked at 32 degrees south and116 degrees east. By looking at a map, it is found that Australia is northwest ofNew Zealand, south of Papua New Guinea and Indonesia and to the very far eastof Madagascar.Australia is in the southern hemisphere and has the lowest average elevation for any continent. With the highest altitude being 7,310 feet above sea level at Mount Kosciuszko, and the lowest altitude being 49 feet below sea level at Lake Eyre, the average comes out to a mere 1083 feet above sea level.
