    • Luois Pasteur was born in France in 1822. He was a great scientist and a very good biologist. He invented a new science called microbiology. He also invevted some vaccines.

    • During Pasteur’s time, wine and beer would often turn sour. It happend from time to time. He wanted to find out why this happened. He took some good wine and put it under a microscope. He saw roundshaped organisms. He also took some bad wine. He put it under a microscope as well. He saw tiny, black, rod – shaped organisms. He knew what those organisms caused problems. The bad wine had the wrong organisms in it. He had found the problem and then he found the resolution. What did he do ? He heated the wine. The heat killed the tiny, black, rod – shaped organisms.

    • Wine is made by fermentation. Pasteur knew that yeast made things ferment. But nobody knew how it happened. Pasteur wanted to find it out. At first he took a sample of wine. He looked into it using his microscope and he was very surprised ! He saw that the yeast was alive.
    • He saw it give off alcohol and gas. Now he knew how fermentation happened and what it caused .

    • Pasteur liked to do many reseatches. He proved that germs existed. He also proved that germs carried a lot of vary serious diseases. This became known as the ’’germ theory’’ of disease.

    • Pasteur did a lot of research. He left that bacteria spoiled milk. They alco coused diseases. He heated the milk. He looked through his microscope. The heat had killed the bacteria. He heated other liquid foods. The heat killed the bacteria. Heating food to kill bacteria became known as pasteurization.

    • Pasteur studied many bacteria. He also grew them is his lab. He grew the bacteria that caused cholera. The bacteria were old and no longer active. He injected them into a heathly chicken.Ehat happened? The chicken did not fall sick with cholera. He found that the weak bacteria acted as a vaccine. The chicken would no longer be infected by cholera. He had discovered vaccine. It was a great discovery. He cured many people wiht his vaccine.

    • Pasteur studied anthrax. Anthrax was a disease that killed many animals. It was caused by bacteria. It also infected people. He worked to find a vaccine for anthrax. First, he had to weaken the anthrax bacteria. He did many experiments. Finally he produced weak and harmless antharx bacteria. He tested his vaccine on cattle and sheep. It worked! He had discovered a vaccine for anthrax.

    • At that time, rabies was a common disease in France. Before 1885 many people died because of rabies. Pasteur wanted to find a vaccine for rabies. He studied animals that had rabies. In 1885 he produced a vaccine. He first tested his vaccine on animals. He then tested his vaccine on a boy. The boy was bitten by a rabid dog. The boy did not develop rabies. Pasteur had discovered a vaccine for rabies.

    • Pasteur was a great scientist. He taugh people how to figh diseases. Pasteur Institutes were bulit all over the world to fight diseases. It was a great honor for a great man.
    • He died in 1895
  • 12. I learned so much about your life and work. Thanks for the great visit! Thanks for coming Kinga. I enjoyed the visit!
