Web 2.0 Tools • RSS is a tool that allows subscribers to push content at them from podcasts, blogs, wikis, news services, etc. • Blogs are tools for users to create and share content, often as personal diaries, in which they can control access, the possibility for commentary, and editing. • Wikis are tools for creating content collaboratively, making possible the social validation of knowledge. • Resource Sharing Tools include: – Photo Sharing, – Social Bookmarking – File Sharing • Mashups are tools that combine two web 2.0 tools into one, such as combining Google maps with occurrences of crime in a neighborhood. • Social Network Analysis is a tool that analyzes information flows in an organization or on the web.

What is RSS? • RSS is a group of web feed formats for providing news, blogs or podcasts. • The abbreviation refers to various standards: – Really Simple Syndication (RSS 2.0) – Rich Site Summary (RSS 0.91, RSS 1.0) – RDF Site Summary (RSS 0.9 and 1.0) • RSS feeds provide content or summaries of web content together with links to the full versions of the content, and/or other metadata. Wikis • Server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser • Supports hyperlinks and uses a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly • Unusual among group communication tools since you can edit both the organization of contributions, as well as the content itself • Allows all users to edit any page, with full freedom to edit, change and delete the work of previous authors • Particularly useful for brainstorming sessions since by definition, these sessions are a group activity • Very useful for consensus building such as agreeing on meeting minutes.
