The Progression of Hockey Sticks By: Brian Brown
The Early Years in Hockey (1800’s) This picture shows what a hockey stick looks like in the 1800’s. When hockey first started there were only a few teams but in the early 1900’s more teams decided to join the league. (Tor., Mon., Bos., Chi., NY., Det.)

Most, if not all, sticks were made the same way with almost the same measurements.
Between the 1930’s and 1950’s they changed the angle of the stick so it became easier to control the puck.

By now the manufacturers have dialed in on the make of the stick and what wood to use.
Hockey Sticks in the 1990’s This is a picture of a sher-wood hockey stick. Became popular around this time. In the 90’s a new invention of a hockey stick, the composite stick. Not that common then became more popular in the 00’s.
Hockey Sticks Today This is a composite stick and today everyone in the National Hockey League (NHL). When this type of stick was invented I posed more opportunity for scoring goals and was more accurate when shooting.
Future hockey stick In the future I think that they will come out with a stick that has holes in it so the player has a lighter stick and they can shoot faster.
In conclusion, I believe that the progression of hockey sticks has helped out the game and it made it more enjoyable and more fun.
