  • This is a presentation on LinkedIn. Is intended for people who are already set up on LI and comfortable with the basic functionality. Is everyone in the right place?Feel free to ask questions during the preso or hold them until the end.
  • We’re going to cover a lot of topics. If there’s something in particular that you are interested in, we can set up an individual appointment – or we might find that another session is necessary. So, let’s see how it goes. Any questions?
  • There’s a lot of information out there about Personal Branding for job seekers. We don’t need to go into deep detail. Let ‘s just consider the definition and the idea that your brand is “YOU”
  • Before we go any further, let’s start with “personal brand.” Ask audience:What do I mean by “personal brand?”and how do you do this?Next slide for definition.
  • There’s a lot of information out there about Personal Branding for job seekers. We don’t need to go into deep detail. Let ‘s just consider the definition and the idea that your brand is “YOU”
  • When you get home, take time to answer these questions. They are not easy, but answering them puts you ahead of your competition in the marketplace. How do you check your personal brand? Google yourself!
  • A profile is a lot like a resume, but it’s not a resume. It’s a personal marketing statement. Exploit the possibilities here! Recruiters and hiring managers like creativity – within bounds, of course. Think in terms of what you will bring to the (next) table, and don’t dwell on past experiences. Also, be POSITIVE – about yourself, previous employers, and even in your photo.
  • What do you notice about this profile?
  • Shifting gears to a different topic. Expect to give and not receive…the returns on your investment will be more than you expect. Give job leads, give connections, give articles…give time to others. This is sort of a “pay it forward” notion. When you are inviting people to become connections, make sure to customize your invitations. Especially if these are people you don’t know, personalize your invites. Explain why you want to be connected. Find a common ground.
  • You can change your status every few days. This keeps you in front of people and at the top of their minds. This is about branding your product – “YOU.”Just make sure it’s relevant and professional. Don’t tell us you walked the dog today. This isn’t Facebook or Twitter. Instead, are you attending any substantive events? Read – or, better yet – written any articles?
  • Show that you have a rock solid reputation. The recommendations do not need to be from your managers. Co-workers can vouch for your work ethic, creativity, knowledge base, etc. And “job” is a loose word. This can include community contacts, past schoolmates, etc. How do you get recommendations? By giving them.
  • Please feel free to ask any questions. Also, as always, we areavailable for individual consultations, and we have a computer lab where we can sit down together and walk through your profile and strategy.
