  • 2. The HippodromeTheatre
    • Established in 1972
    • 3. Began in a converted hardware/convenience store
    • 4. Moved into the Federal Building in Downtown Gainesville in 1979
    • 5. Non-profit organization
    • 6. Produces seven to eight Mainstage productions each year
    • 7. Screens hundreds of first-run foreign, avant-garde and limited-release films each year
    • 8. Educational programs such as HITT, the Hippodrome Improvisational Teen Theatre, and summer theatre camps
    • 9. Offers an intern program for training in acting, directing, administration and technical theatre
  • Why should you donate?

  • 10. The Hippodrome is the only professional theatre in Gainesville
  • 11. Major cuts in federal funding
  • 12. Hippodrome productions attract over 200,000 consumers each year, approximately 30,000 of those from outside of Alachua county who patronize the downtown Gainesville area
  • 13. Provides educational programs to at-risk youth
  • 14. Competitive intern program
  • 15. Only cinema to screen first-run foreign and limited release films in Gainesville
  • 16. Provides college students with free one-year subscriptions to the theatre through a program called “Generation Next.”
