  • 1.  Mark Zuckerberg ,who created today’s most internationally used Facebook , has a Bulgarian origin and he is named after his Bulgarian grandfather - Marko.
  • 2.  On 24th August 2007 the Bulgarian swimmer Petar Stoychev made a world record swimming through the La Manche for less than 7 hours!
  • 3.  The world’s oldest gold treasure, bearing regal marks and dating back more than 6,000 years, was discovered in Bulgaria, the city of Varna.
  • 4.  Bulgarian yogurt has a unique taste because the bacteria used to make it, Lactobacillus bulgaricus, is only found naturally in Bulgarian air. (Other countries import it, though, so that they can make their own yogurt.)
  • 5.  There are more than 1600 thermal mineral springs on the territory of Bulgaria the hottest one -103.8 degrees is claimed to be the hottest in Europe!
  • 6. And…as there are two sides of the same coin, I should mention a few bad statistics..
  • 7. Women and people smoke a LOT- second, after Greece.
  • 8. Bulgaria is one of the countries in the world suffering from negative population growth. From having 9 million inhabitants in 1988, Bulgaria has just around 7 million people today.
  • 9. Foreigners say we have Bad medical system (the worst in the EU)... Rakia is the solution for everything.
