1972 - “ No person in the U.S. shall be exulted from participation in the befit of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or active receiving Federal financial assistance.”
This means that women and men are to be able to be involved in sports and higher education.
Before this movement (40 years ago) women could not attend collages, athletic scholarships were very rare, and the math and science classes were reserved for men.
After the Women's Movement, it created higher education in careers, for pregnancy and parenting, and employment. Also women playing sports was starting to become more popular and no longer unattractive and unfeminine.
