    • The Basics of Online Communication Maintaining successful and effective communication in the digital world.
    • Using Email The online tool we love and hate.
    • Why do we love email?
      • Because it’s so easy to use
      • Everyone has access to it
      • And we all love to get mail
    • We learn to hate email!
      • Spam! (from friends and foes)
      • Inbox becomes a hodgepodge
      • No escape, email is always there
      • It’s a walled garden of info
      • Messages are misunderstood
      • It allows us to be lazy
      • Email tries to do too much
      • Do not:
        • open spam
        • click “unsubscribe” in spam
        • post your email everywhere
        • open attachments
      The first problem…
      • Do not:
        • open spam

    • Trim those Forwards
    • “ Hey, check this out” Even your friends, family and co-workers send spam. They mean well, but after a while it becomes annoying. You just have to tell them to stop.
    • What is Missing Here?
    • Imagine if the newspaper did this
    • Or this
    • Always use a meaningful Subject
    • Know Your Audience
    • From: Kevin Smalley Sent: Friday, April 20, 2007 3:14 PM To: list serve Subject: [Nfbc-info] Digital Talking Books from N LS Hello Californians: I am forwarding on the following letter from Dr. Maurer. Action is needed to prevent the blockage of talking books being put into digital format. The Library of Congress has a plan to make digital talking book machines available in 2008. This new format is destined to replace outdated cassette machines, and even the CD , which is nearing the end of its innovation. Following the letter is a list of Senators or Representatives serving on subcommittees who need to be contacted regarding the necessity of such a service. Please refer to Dr. Maurer's letter for more information: Cordially, Marc Maurer, President Choose function over form
