Racing through a Collections Project:completing a learning spaces remodel ofreference in three months Beth Schuck, beth.schuck@nau.edu, Associate University Librarian, Northern Arizona University Materials Transferred• Over 11,000 items;• 9,200 volumes from reference, How We Did It• 2,000 other volumes • Subject librarians and staff weeded• 32,000 volumes touched specific collections of outdated and little• 2 lbs. approximate weight per volume used materials• 5 times, the number each item handled • Together we shifted multiple collections• 160 tons, total weight staff lifted to clear out space for a remodel. • Shelving was moved using a stacks mover; and teams moved collections from one area to another. April 2012 May-June 2012 July-August 2012 Fall 2012Project Project team develops Decision and remove Carpet removal/install Complete cataloging milestones; arranges for items in stacks & Complete stacks shifts / changes. Update buildingtimeline training and student reference for processing/ weeding & transfer items/ maps / train staff/ open staffing/ prepare spaces Remove shelving Re-label stacks new learning spaces
