      • An Introduction
    • Screencast
      • A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture , often containing audio narration.
      • The term screencast dates from 2004
      • Early products produced large files and had limited editing features.
      • More recent products support more compact file formats such as Adobe Flash and have more sophisticated editing features allowing changes in sequence, mouse movement, and audio.
      • Just as a screenshot is a picture of a user's screen, a screencast is essentially a movie of what a user sees on their monitor.

    • CamStudio - AVI
      • CamStudio is a tool which records screen activity into standard AVI files.
        • Audio Video Interleave , known as AVI , is a multimedia container format by Microsoft and is part of their Video for Windows technology.
        • AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback the files support multiple streaming audio and video.
        • http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_Video_Interleave
    • CamStudio - SWF
      • SWF (acronym of “Shock Wave Flash” pronounced swif - is a multimedia file developed by Macromedia and now controlled by Adobe.
      • Intended to be small enough for publication on the web, SWF files can contain animations or applets of varying degrees of interactivity and function.
      • http:// en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swf
    • CamStudio
      • With CamStudio AVI demonstrations can be created in just a few steps.
      • Install it and just follow the instructions, it is very easy to use, no programming knowledge required.
      • All the recordings created with CamStudio can be played back with the CamStudio Player, Windows Media Player and many other third party tools that support AVI.
    • CamStudio
      • This tool can be used to:
        • record the steps of any complex task,
        • create movies for user training,
        • record and track the progress of a program that executes for a long time,
        • record the sequence of steps that cause the occurrence of bugs in faulty software,
        • record a gaming session,
        • record a movie stream for posting it to a website
        • The best part about this software is that it is free.

      • Visit www.CamStudio.org and download the free software. Please use link under Camstudio in tools look for CamStudio2-0.exe
      • note - Version 2.0 loads easiest.
    • CamStudio – Step 2
      • Once CamStudio is installed, you can make video adjustments.
      • Open CamStudio and click on the Options button at the top.
      • A menu will drop down and you'll see Video Options at the top.
      • Adjust your video to compress by using one of the listed programs.
      • You can download others from websites or you can leave it on the default settings. (We’ll use the default).
    • CamStudio – Step 3
      • You have a choice of two video formats, either AVI or SWF.
      • AVI is a standard video format that most people can easily open.
      • SWF is better if you want to publish your file to a website.
      • Some people feel SWF is better for web publication because you don't have to embed it onto your site.
    • CamStudio – Step 3
      • For best results we need to adjust a few other video settings - these can be set as:
      • Compression Microsoft Video 1
      • Configure 1.0
      • Quality 60
      • Set key frames 20
      • Capture frames 50
      • Play back rate 30
      • Max frame rate 1
    • CamStudio – Step 4
      • Next adjust audio options so that you can either record via a microphone or by using your computer's speakers.
      • The latter if recording a game or some program that has sound, the sound will be included in your video.
      • The program's default is to have the sound turned off.
    • CamStudio – Step 4 cont’d
      • Enable AutoPan
      • AutoPan speed - 100
      • Program Options
      • Under Region – Select Fixed Region
      • Keyboard Shortcuts
      • Rec’d F2 Next F5
      • Stop F3 Prev F6
      • Cancel F4 Show/Hide None
    • CamStudio – Step 5
      • Now simply click record and see what happens.
      • When you're done recording - push the stop button, you'll see a prompt to save the file.
      • You may want the CamStudio screen to be minimized so that it isn't included in your video if so scroll down to program options and –
      • Select Minimize program on the start recording option.
    • CamStudio – Step 6
      • You are essentially ready and can begin recording.
      • Before starting you can also change:
      • How your curser looks - pan in and out and you can even control the speed the camera moves.
      • You can adjust whether you record a full screen or (usually) simply a portion of your screen.
      • Under Region – Fixed Region works best with Youtube . . .
