In a Virtual Tech Days session, I demonstrated how to use Management Studio and the existing features in SQL Server to manage your SQL Server instances. This will feature use of Extended Events, Custom Reports, Management Data Warehouse and much more.

INDIA │ 28-30 September2011<br />virtual techdays<br />System Health Session<br />The session collects information that includes the following:<br />Errors that have a severity greater than or equal to 20.<br />Information about memory related errors.<br />A record of any non-yielding scheduler problems<br />Any deadlocks that are detected.<br />Any waits greater than 15 seconds.<br />Lock waits greater than 30 seconds.<br />Information about sessions that have waited for a long time for preemptive waits. <br />Platform<br />

INDIA │ 28-30 September2011<br />virtual techdays<br />System Health Session<br />The system_health session is an Extended Events session that is included by default with SQL Server (2008 and above).<br />Starts on SQL service startup.<br />No noticeable performance effects due to this session.<br />The session collects data that can be used to troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues in case you don’t have any data collection/monitoring tool collecting data.<br />The script to create the session is available in the u_tables.sql script under:<br />C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLx.<instanceid>MSSQLInstall<br />Platform<br />
