  • 3. SQL Server Integration Services
    • Introduction: The project designs and builds an SQL Server 2005 database to track employee and customer information, timesheet and labor rates data, as well as job order information, job materials, and customer invoices for a construction company called AllWorks. In the client project scenario, AllWorks currently stores this information in Excel Spreadsheets, XML files, and CSV files.
    • Project Goals: Make enhancements to the existing data sources, to support more flexible business practices for customer invoicing, use SQL Server 2005 Integration Services to integrate these external data sources into the SQL Server database.
  • 4. Project Sample – SSIS - Package
    • This Package processes the time sheets that are in CSV format and are located in a folder, and loads and/or updates the time sheet table in the AllWorksDatabase.
    • Identifies invalid records and writes them to a file to be sent out with the outcome notification for further research.
    • The package also generates an e-mail with the process outcome statistics.

    • This is a sample view of the data flow design for the package described on the previous slide.
    • This package among other things uses conditional split, lookup, records count and writes valid records to a database and invalid records to flat files for further review

    • The package performs update of a County table, and after that updates Client Geographies table.
    • Success / Failure e-mails are generated based on the package execution outcome.

    • It gets data from an excel file, converts data types, checks for invalid records, redirects invalid records, and updates the database table to include valid records only.

    • This is a screen shot of a Master package that executes all the packages in the solution in the order of their dependency on each other’s data.
    • After the data processing and loading is completed, the database maintenance tasks are executed and failure/success e-mails are generated.
  • 9. SQL Server Analysis Services
    • Introduction: This project builds analysis package solution using Analysis Services for the AllWorks database that had been populated and updated by the SSIS package solution.
    • Project Goals: To build analysis package solution using Analysis Services, setting the SQL database as the data source. From the SQL Server database build several custom views into the database, and set up a series of cubes, dimensions and key point indicators (KPIs) to analyze and measure AllWorks profitability and costs. Write MDX queries and display the results in Excel.

    • Connection to the data source has been established
    • Data source view created: relationships between the fact tables and dimension tables have been established
    • The cube has been created that consists of 4 measures and 5 dimensions
    • Some dimensions hierarchies have been modified to better serve the needs of information retrieval

    • Five calculated members have been created using MDX in order to accommodate creation of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)

    • Introduction: The project designs reports using SQL Server 2005, Performance Point Server, and MS Excel and deploys the reports to a Sharepoint site. The project also designs report subscription on a schedule, when a report is delivered to a specified SharePoint site folder.
    • Project Goals: Create the SharePoint site collection, Performance Point Dashboards and Score Cards, SSRS reports, Excel Reports based on the available cubes. Deploy the reports to the SharePoint site, schedule specified report’s delivery.
  • 20. Project Sample – SSRS, SPS, PPS – SSRS Report
    • This is a screen shot of Report designed in the Reporting Services and deployed to SharePoint Site, and displayed in a web browser.
    • The report features cascading parameters for the date range based on Employee name selected (only dates for which an employee had labor hours/dollars recorded will be displayed for the dates drop-downs)
  • 21. Project Sample – SSRS, SPS, PPS – SSRS Report
    • This is a screen shot of a report designed in the Reporting Services and deployed to SharePoint site, and displayed in a web browser.
    • The report features FY quarter parameter for the current quarter selection. Report automatically displays current quarter and previous quarter based on the selection. The first available quarter of data is excluded from parameter selection list

    • This is screen shot of a report and a chart designed in the Performance Point Server 2007 and deployed to SharePoint Site, and displayed in a web browser.
    • The report and chart feature parameter selection (employee name) that controls both the chart and the table .
  • 23. Project Sample – SSRS, SPS, PPS – Performance Point Server Score Cards
    • This is a screen shot of a Score Card that gives quick presentation of state of business designed in the Performance Point Server 2007 and deployed to SharePoint Site, and displayed in a web browser.
    • One score card features parameter selection, and the other one provides general overview.
