علی الرغم وجود نقاط ضعف و چالشهای اساسی در حوزه حمل و نقل ریلی , به جهت برخورداری از نقاط قوت چشمگیر و فرصتهاي طلائي پيش روي صنعت ريلي در كشور ، در اين مقاله سعي گرديده بطور مختصر فرصتها و چالشهاي پيش رو در صنعت ريلي مورد بررسي قرار گيرد و هر جند موجز عوامل تاثير گذار بر رشد و توسعه صنعت ريلي مورد تحليل واقع شود. رویکرد اصلی در این مقاله چگونگی تدوین نقشه راه به منظور تحقق اهداف و سیاستهای از پیش تنظیم شده در قالب سند چشم انداز حمل و نقل ریلی می باشد. بي شك با نگاهي بلند مدت و ملي به دغدغه هاي صنعت ريلي و توجه جدي به رشد متوازن آن در كشور مي توان فاصله تاريخي كشور در عرصه صنعت ريلي با سایر گزینه ها و همچنین تكنولوژي هاي روز دنيا را كاهش داده و از پتانسيل هاي شگرف اين صنعت در راستاي اهداف چشم انداز 20 ساله استفاده نمود.
