• Want to take a motorcycle ride while the weather is still warm enough?
• Introduction
Pennsylvania's motorcycle helmet law only requires riders 20 years old and younger to wear a helmet while riding.
However to ride without a helmet a rider must have possessed their license for over two years and complete a riders safety coarse approved by PennDot
• Motorcycle Crash Rates
In 2007 Pennsylvania had 4,111 motorcycle crashes.
Out of the 4,111 crashes 225 of them were fatal.
This means if you crashed your bike your chances of your accident being fatal would be .05 to 1

In 2007 there were 5,154 fatal motorcycle accidents nation wide
225 of these fatal accidents in Pennsylvania residents
That means the probability of a Pennsylvania resident having a fatal accident is .04 to 1
• This means 4% of all fatal motorcycle accidents Nationwide happened in Pennsylvania
• Other Crash Facts
Out of a total of 3,686 motorcycle crashes
1,317 victims were admitted to a trauma center
And 657 of those admitted to trauma centers were reported to have serious head injuries.
• Probabilities of Crash Results
This means:
If you are in a motorcycle crash you have a .35 to 1 chance of going to a trauma center
Your chances of experiencing a head injury would be .17 to 1.
