  3. 3. ABOUT YOUTUBE.COM  Popular free video sharing website.  It lets users upload, view, and share video clips.  Videos can be rated, and the average rating and the number of times a video has been watched are both published.

COMPANY BACKGROUND  Idea from Hurley and Chen during early months of 2005.  After they had experienced difficulty sharing videos that had been shot at a dinner party at Chen's apartment.  The name and logo of the company are an allusion to the cathode ray tube, a display device used since the early days of electronic television.
  7. 7.  YouTube began as a venture-funded technology startup, primarily from a US$11.5 million investment by Sequoia Capital between November 2005 and April 2006.  In October 2006, Google Inc. announced that it had acquired YouTube for US$1.65 billion in Google stock, and the deal was finalized on November 13, 2006.  On March 31, 2010, the YouTube website launched a new design, with the aim of simplifying the interface and increasing the time users spend on the site.

IT APPLICATIONS (PLAYBACK)  Viewing YouTube videos on a personal computer requires the Adobe Flash Player plug-in to be installed in the browser.  January 2010, YouTube launched new version of the site that uses built-in multimedia capabilities that support HTML5 standards.  Allows videos to be viewed without requiring Adobe Flash Player or any other plug-in to be installed.

IT APPLICATIONS (UPLOADING)  YouTube accepts videos uploaded in most container formats, including .AVI, .MKV, .MOV, .MP4, DivX, .FLV, and .ogg and .ogv.  These include video formats such as MPEG-4, MPEG, and .WMV.  It also supports 3GP, allowing videos to be uploaded from legacy mobile phones.

Revenue Model • Advertising – only text advertisements are available. But pre-roll, post-roll, or interstitial video ads may be right around the corner. • Subscription - The subscription would eliminate ads and provide better streaming quality. • Affiliate - YouTube only benefits when a user buys or pays for the given service displayed on the side of the page. • Content - Users upload their videos and smack a price on them. If people download them and they sell, the user gets paid out and YouTube receives a commission on the sale.

  13. 13. BUSINESS MODEL Market Strategy • The marketing strategy of YouTube is to have a mass amount of YouTube users at your disposal to generate hype and activity within the video clip page. The more connections you have with top publishers and social media users, the easier it is to make a video go viral through the help of such entities. The hyping process for most viral videos is artificial so creating them is all about having numbers and connections.

SUCCESS STORY : YOUTUBE FEATURES  Why YouTube became a phenomenon?  it was both easy and edgy  You can watch videos on the site without downloading any software or even registering.  The management team of Youtube is very efficient  Once an obscure (porn-making) video are being posted, user can flagged and Youtube will have it remove, usually very quickly.  The homepage design is very user-friendly.  the video in the top-right section of the home page is an advertisement, even though it doesn't always look like one.

Let say you want to watching a video.You can choose a long commercial or you can skip it. For the sponsor part, this idea is better because the user who wanted to see the ads are the people who will choose to buy it.
