This document discusses geologic data models and their application to Cordilleran geology. It addresses two facets of data management: 1) data collection including field data, data models, databases and future refinements, and 2) data models in terms of accuracy, breadth, commonality and depth. Accurate data models allow geologists to share data and interpretations without compromising computer capabilities. Developing standardized taxonomies helps disseminate geologic knowledge among surveys. The document outlines how data models can improve data collection and interpretation for complex Cordilleran geology.
