MENTAL HEALTH SCENARIO OF BANGLADESH… Sunday, November 27, 2011 MA ISLAM, CPIT 2, UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA <ul><li>Geographical area: 147570 square km. </li></ul><ul><li>Total population: 141.8 million. </li></ul><ul><li>39% of the population under the age 15. </li></ul><ul><li>6% population over the age 60. </li></ul><ul><li>74% population is rural. </li></ul><ul><li>16.05% of the adult are suffering from Mental Disorder. </li></ul><ul><li>1 Mental hospital of 500 bed(70% schizophrenia, 30% mood disorder). </li></ul><ul><li>10 NGOs involved in Mental Health Service </li></ul><ul><li>4% trained medical Doctors are in the Mental Health field. </li></ul>

MENTAL HEALTH SCENARIO OF BANGLADESH… <ul><li>2% trained nurses are in the Mental Health field. </li></ul><ul><li>O.49% of total number of human resource are working in Mental Health per 100,000. </li></ul><ul><li>Mental Health for prisoners is insufficient. </li></ul><ul><li>No Mental Disorder is covered in social insurance schemes </li></ul><ul><li>No human rights review body exists </li></ul><ul><li>No specific Mental Health Authority. </li></ul><ul><li>31 community based psychiatric inpatient unit for a total 0.58 bed per 100,000. </li></ul><ul><li>2 Institutes for Juvenile delinquent. </li></ul>Sunday, November 27, 2011 MA ISLAM, CPIT 2, UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA
