  2. 2. Aynne Valencia | Design Director Assumptions Mobile is not necessarily defined as a phone Blue Sky thinking allowed NFC specific ideas Point of View Avoid clique or gimmicks Ideas that would integrate into existing behaviors Exhibit sensitivity to user privacy concerns Don’t make the user do anything silly, inconvenient or uncomfortable Make the defaults as dead simple and useful as possible. Yet, give the user the ability to tweak the logic. Themes Serendipity There is delight of discovering something new or unexpected. Happy accidents. Transparency Yes, your data is being collected but you can use that data for your own benefit and we will show you what is being collectedCopyright © 2011 Aynne Valencia. All rights reserved. 6. 6. Aynne Valencia | Design Director NFC technology to meet any two wireless exchange of Web Enables: information between devices, content access, exchange of Semantics services, and to make it more simple - as long as any two Analysis devices around, no patch cables, you can communicate among Data Storage each other, This will allow any two wireless devices "communication distance" significantly reduced. Environment in User interface the wireless devices, NFC can be without going through complicated menu to establish a connection to achieve in Things that already have sensors: the non-contact type smart cards, RF transponder between cars devices communicate with each other. Compared with the heating units, air conditioning units infrared technology, NFC device can work under both active mechanized appliances and passive mode, enabling non-contact type smart cards, RF traffic corridors transponder, and many passive devices to communicate. robots Things were sensors can easily be placed Some places where NFC is being used today: wearable objects POS Payment: Sensors Enable: Public Transport Awareness of things moving around us Time/Attendance Tracking Supply Chain Management Other things to watch out for: Movement of goods and shipments Bio-sensing awareness of the thing moving around us Pharmaceutical inventory control and Anticipatory Systems Customs clearanceCopyright © 2011 Aynne Valencia. 9. 9. Aynne Valencia | Design Director guardian Problem Statement “Did I leave the iron on?” “Have I turned off the stove?” One of life’s little annoyances and source of stress is wondering about the small things such as home safety. How can we use NFC to connect mundane objects in a simple way? Mobile | Safety & Security | EnergyCopyright © 2011 Aynne Valencia. All rights reserved. CONFIDENTIAL 9

Aynne Valencia | Design Director guardian http://guardiandetector/xyx123 Name  the  thing  you  want  to  keep  track  of:   iron 1 Alert  me  if  this  is:   Solution Proposal on For consumers that do not want to invest in expensive Alert  me  when:   systems in their house, a simple solution could be guardian. Guardian is a simple sensor system that recognizes when a I  leave  my  house high-risk appliance is plugged into an enabled outlet. I  am  near  my  house I  am  near  my  work Guardians come in a paired buttons (diameter 11 mm X 2 mm) with sticky backs that a user places on the outlet and Alert  me  when:   on the appliance. On  my  phone:   By  making  a  beep:   If this device is plugged in based on parameters the user has defined on their mobile such as time or location of mobile device to home okay,  you’re  done If the appliance remains plugged in while user is leaving the house a notification sounds at the door and if this notification is ignored the users mobile will be pinged to alert the user the appliance is still plugged in. * NFC low powered benign signal should not cause a spark 2 If this device is plugged in based on parameters the user has defined on their mobile such as time or location of mobile device to homeCopyright © 2011 Aynne Valencia. 11. 11. Aynne Valencia | Design Director dash A roll up of your driving data. Sensors collect: driving speed, braking and can log the distance between the time you began your journey and time to destination - this can be compared with averages for that distance to extrapolate the difference. Depending on traffic conditions, driving behavior dash will give the user a roll up of the drive for a split second interaction right after the car stops and key removed from ignition. If the user wants more information they can select the icon and see what data was collected or ignore it and it will be added to a driving log. Enables your car to commiserate, help you improve driving or just provide a fun way to provoke curiosity while being transparent that data is being collected. 14. 14. Aynne Valencia | Design Director data charm Problem Statement As mobile phones contain more personal information, this also creates a security risk but also an opportunity Solution Proposed Data charm is a digital key that can enable any device it is contact with to be a conduit for personal information such as stored passwords, contact lists and even applications, data plans. When the user touches or comes in close proximity to the enabled screen, mobile device data charm passes stored information to the device for a temporary pairing of devices. The user simply types in a code to the paired device to complete the pairing handshake. When the data charm is no longer in close proximity, the device no longer contains sensitive data. Aynne Valencia | Design Director ride share ad hoc transport for personal car sharing Problem Statement: Between 2000 and 2008, suburbs in the country’s largest metro areas saw their poor population grow by 25 percent by 2008 large suburbs were home to 1.5 million more poor than their primary cities and housed almost one-third of the nation’s poor overall.
