About Berea <ul><li>Location: Berea, Kentucky (south of Lexington) </li></ul><ul><li>Founded in 1855 by abolitionists and radical reformers </li></ul><ul><li>Current full-time enrollment is 1514 students. </li></ul><ul><li>School colors  Blue & White </li></ul><ul><li>Mascot  Mountaineers </li></ul><ul><li>Has a foundation based on scripture </li></ul><ul><li>Berea nurtures all aspects: intellectual, physical, emotional, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Each student receives a laptop computer (student owns upon graduation) </li></ul>

Admission Requirements <ul><li>HAVE AN INTERVIEW </li></ul><ul><li>A score between 20 and 30 on the ACT </li></ul><ul><li>Average family income of $50,000.00 or less </li></ul><ul><li>Cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 </li></ul><ul><li>Consideration of other factors: community service, leadership qualities, and levels of motivation. </li></ul><ul><li>Recommended high school curriculum: </li></ul><ul><li>Four units of English </li></ul><ul><li>Three units of Mathematics (at least Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry) </li></ul><ul><li>Two units of Laboratory Science </li></ul><ul><li>Two units of Social Science/History </li></ul><ul><li>Two units of foreign language </li></ul>

Admissions Statistics <ul><li>Berea College enrolled 392 new freshmen out of 2,745 applications. </li></ul><ul><li>The average ACT of those enrolled was 23.5. </li></ul><ul><li>55% of those enrolled graduated in the top 20% of their high school class. </li></ul><ul><li>56% were first generation college students </li></ul><ul><li>82% of first-year students return as sophomores. </li></ul><ul><li>85% of first-year African-American students return as sophomores. </li></ul>
