      • Quick way to figure out how the student learns best
      • Aids you in choosing the best intervention
      • Allows you to demonstrate to others the way the child learns best
      • Decreases student experience of failure

      • All students’ progress should monitored and instruction should be based on the data collected.
      • Two types of monitoring for our discussion:
        • RtI Interventions
        • IEP Goals

      • Core VII – Use data to make decisions.
        • Create decision making guidelines to facilitate movement within and between tiers.
        • Review of RtI Literature recommends using the relationship between the 3-4 most recent points and the aim/goal line. Refer to page 67 in Response to Intervention (the peach book) for generic guidelines.

    13. Advantages of utilizing decision points and graphs
      • More streamlined (faster) effective meetings
      • Makes the data more easily understood by ALL participants and increases the likelihood that the data will be used.
      • Identifies effectiveness of instruction in a timely manner.
      • Research indicates that the act of progress monitoring increases student achievement.
    14. IEP Goals
      • Document progress toward goals through data collection.
      • Keep the students involved in their goals by allowing them to add their own data (yes, it is that easy!).
      • Present data at staffings to discuss student progress, needs and plans.
