This is the first time I’ve presented here in the Admin Zone, so I wanted you to know a little about me. From the beginning it would be fair to say that I was a “consumer” of information and media…
And just a few years later I vividly remember my Dad sitting down after dinner, and opening up this gigantic crazy thing with little squigglys and pictures all over it and I was totally fascinated. Dad! What is that?. Why honey, this is a newspaper – these squigglys are all words like in the books that I read you, and these words are the ones that people said, or thought about, or are talking about today. Each night I read this newspaper to learn what is happening all over the world.
I had to have this. This was amazing! I insisted on learning to read immediately and I was lucky - my parents got a Phonics book and taught me right away –
The whole world opened up – stacks of books and comics from the library every week. Newspapers, magazines, everything I could get my hands on. Day and Night
I was also reading when I supposed to be sleeping – and thanks to the technology available in my trusty flashlight, I could literally read until I passed out.
And since I was young, I was physically able to keep up that pace of knowledge acquisition for many years, without slowing down anything else I wanted to do…
Fast forward a few decades to Dreamforce 2014 – my very first Dreamforce.
Felt just like being 4, I wanted to do and hear everything. I landed in SF and was ready to roll…
Slides…
But now, about 48 hours in to the extravaganza – most of us are looking pretty weary. Highly motivated but completely thrashed. Can’t keep the engine running that hot all the time.
For me, Dreamforce is a macro metaphor for what it’s like to be an administrator. You have this amazing foundational flexible platform that its fascinating to learn about, and create with, and imagine the possibilities of. Throughout this World Tour event today is an incredible wonderland of information, applications, new ideas, and the people involved in that.
But in order to activate that technology, you need the other universal platform, you - the administrator.
And the technology contained in the platform that is US, needs just as much attention, education, about how to optimally function.
Just like putting your own oxygen mask before helping others…Because its no fun to end up like -
Sad little Administrator Bunny!
So today I’m going to let you know about some of the items I brought back from Dreamforce that I’ve Honestly actually applied to my workday that I found to be game-changers for my own “Human platform maintenance” as a Salesforce Administrator
Today I’m going to share with you the specific items a learned from three speakers – handpicked by Marc Benioff. And I’d like to underscore the fact that it’s a big deal to speak at Dreamforce – it’s not filler. All of the speakers were very much worth my time. These three in particular were the ones that I thought about the most after the excitement died down, and who gave me ideas about how to care for my own person while still participating fully as an Administrator.
First up – Arianna Huffington, founder of the Huffington Post.
Her Book. Her physical collapse, and the road back.
What she did – just a few minutes into her speech, she sat down in the middle of the stage. I’ve never seen anyone do that, ever. It was a significant moment in focusing our attention on what really mattered at that moment. She practiced what she preaches and led the whole crowd through a simple quick breathing exercise on the spot, before standing up again to continue to tell us about self care.
Sleep – just add a little – I could do that.
Meditation!
Hmmmm if it’s good enough for Marc, maybe we should seriously consider this
Step 1 – at work. But for how long.
Step 2 – where can I do it?
Robbins – energetic, powerful speaker.
He warms up too – because he’ll tell you right off the bat he’s NOT a motivational speaker
He is all about awareness of state – how to notice, why it’s essential to manage it. The State you’re in dictates what you can do, how clearly you’ll think and what you remember, and the fastest way to alter your state is to change your physiology.
High octane Tony – music, jumping, hugging -
Tony – lite – demo of the 10 Second Superhero
Al Gore gave a highly visual, up to date and fact filled presentation about the current state of the entire planet, and how our actions have affected the greater whole. The immeasurable power of the human community.
Renewed efforts now that I was cultivating myself with more awareness – reaching out to others. Asking for help, giving help.
When we come across good ideas, take a step forward to do more than just agree. Consider changing, just a little bit.
The only thing that will matter in the end are those small decisions. Many little changes are what brought us all here. Through US, the admins, ideas are translated into technology, and then back again into new ideas. I like being an Administrator, and I like the people I meet that are on that journey too. Each of these small decisions changed my point of view – my perspective. For me, that’s the whole ballgame. It’s the new way of seeing that makes us the caretakers, the ushers of limitless change.
