  • 2.  Happens when a hotspot occurs on the earth’s surface or due to warm ocean currents 1. Water evaporates 2. Hot air rises 3. Cool air cannot hold water 4. Precipitation occurs
  • 3.  Happens when a mass of cold air (cold front) meets a mass of warm air (warm front) 1. Warm air holds moisture 2. Warm air is lighter than cold air so is forced to rise 3. As it rises, it cools 4. Cold air can’t hold moisture 5. Precipitation occurs
  • 4.  Found where mountain ranges are near the coastline 1. Water is evaporated from the ocean 2. Warm, moist air is forced to rise when it meets a mountain 3. Rising air cools, cool air cannot hold as much moisture as warm air 4. Rising air releases precipitation
