Worldwide Forecast Over the next five years, IDC expects spending on IT cloud services to grow almost threefold, reaching $42 billion by 2012. According to IT Cloud Services Forecast - 2008, 2012 by IDC One reason IT suppliers are sharpening their focus on the “cloud” model is its growth trajectory, which - at 27% CAGR . This rapid growth is being driven by the ease and speed with which users can adopt these offerings, as well as the cloud model’s economic benefits (for users and suppliers alike) - which will have even greater resonance in the current economic crisis. IDC also analyses that Cloud computing will account for 25 percent of the net growth of technology from 2011 to 2012, and 30 percent of growth from 2012 to 2013. The growth currently witnessed is slow because it is in an adoption stage. IDC expects increased adoption of the PaaS models of delivering services via ''the Cloud'' in an attempt to drive down costs in the current economic environment. This will be particularly relevant for the small and medium size businesses (SMBs). In addition, vendors are also moving towards standardizing their support service offerings, which will become even more appealing to the SMB market as they are price sensitive and looking for quick and expedient ways to scale up their business. IDC believes that vendors that are able to offer remote, host-based, automated delivery of services will gain favorable traction in this market segment. Worldwide Trends Forrester in its survey results indicated that there is a strong interest in cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) among enterprise sector Forrester predicts that the SaaS model (which he includes under the rubric of managed services) of monthly, no contract, pay-by-the-seat engagements will drive a change in how traditional service providers charge for their services. Cloud computing will push that change further. During the next two to five years, there will be a significant need to manage hybrid architectures , where some resources are on-site, some are in the network and the responsibility for managing them is split between in-house IT and the services vendor. IDC estimates the size of the cloud computing infrastructure market as a whopping $ 42 billion 2012, up from $16B in 2008. Key take away from this is Spend on cloud computing is growing 6 times faster than the traditional IT spending

I/O performance bottle necks. Non X-86 Platform Maximizing efficiency – New Processors and Chipsets, Unified I/O, feature additions to Hypervisors. Data Security Perception – Data in transit and Data access are similar to current environment. Customers are worried about data at rest. Network Security – Being a shared environment, network security has potential to hurt multiple customers. Lack of standards for inter cloud operability. Opportunities Natural Progression for Datacenters High Operational Efficiencies and energy efficiencies DR opportunities Web enabled applications and businesses and test and Dev fit well with this model SMB market
