Dear Judges:
My name is Austin Phillips and I chose to teach my mother to shoot a pistol for my
senior project. I did this because I like to shoot and I feel better knowing that my mother knows
how to shoot a gun while I am away at college. I was able to get the experience by training with
a competition shooter and a police officer, which has been on the force for 21 years. My senior
project topic confirmed that I will feel safer when I leave for college. Now that I got accepted
into college, my next goal is to graduate from college with a degree in Criminal Justice and then
move on to work for local police station.
For my product, I had two shooting targets, one before I taught her how to shoot and
one after I taught her how to shoot. My research paper did very little for my end project,
because half way through the year I had to change my senior project. Although my project did
help me realize that every person that lives alone should be able to shoot in self-protection.
There were few obstacles during my main project. One example is the learning curve, which I
had to overcome because everybody shoots differently. I was able to complete my project on
time and with much detail.
My topic and research were different but still related to a career in the criminal justice
field. The topic I chose mostly relates to my ability to teach a new person how to shoot, and my
research mostly related to the topic of police work as a whole. I did a project in this field
because I wanted to see if I was fit to be a trainer for the police force. During this project, I was
able to learn that the police force is where I belong and I plan on pursuing a career as a full time
police officer and hopefully one day becoming an S.W.A.T. sniper.
2. I feel that the senior project was very beneficial in helping me learn what I wanted to do
with my life. It helped me tremendously. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to
listen and read about my senior project.
Sincerely,
Austin Russell Phillips
