There was a time not too long ago when I was anxious to set down and try to create a new show that help me relax .
I really looked forward to see others reaction to my creation. And when the tide got high and I was hit with a misfortune with my son, I turned to this little community for help to pray for him and thousands were right there for me.
Now, with all this nonsense we are spending time Not TO CREATE but to rebuttal each other and to find a way to fight piracy. WHAT A PITTY.
I NEED THE SLIDESHARE COMMUNITY THAT I AM USED TO,I care not for anyone steering us away from creating our shows.
For heaven’s sake, most of us are decent human beings SO let US act like that way.
I can’t find anything more relaxing that creating a show makes some cries and others laugh and by doing so you get a deed for doing that in any religion.
Please, GIVE ME BACK THE SLIDE SHARE COMMUNITY THAT I KNOW with ITS CALM ATMOSPHERE.
    God bless you all.

Thank you Varouj. For your comments. I will not enter into any argument with you except to say I disagree with your assessment of myself. But as you see I am biased so therefore my assessment of myself must also be biased. You may believe what you may, as I believe what in what I may. Enough said.
Oh here I go again having said that I will not enter into any argument with I now find myself asking (Navel gazing once more). If SS is a private site, where is it located if not on the web and therefore part of the web. I have never said that music purchased legally from the web can not be played in your own home for you to listen to. This is your misinterpretation of what I said. What I do say is this, when you purchase recordings in what ever format, vinyl, cd, mp3 etc. you are purchasing the right to listen to those recordings in your own home etc. You are not purchasing the right to broadcast them over a website for all and sundry to listen to. Therefore depriving the record manufacturers and recording artists of income that they are legally entitled to. Why buy the music created by others, when someone else will let you listen to it anyway. And yes Trinity I did come by the music legally, purchased most, given some by recording artists and record companies over many years. But still legally obtained. And whether I have 5 tracks or 500000 tracks is not important. The point I was trying to make is that wherever possible I use content on my slideshows that I have permission for. Okay I also admitted that I too have sourced content from the web that perhaps may be copyright but I have no way of finding who the copyright owner maybe. And perhaps if they happen across my work and are happy with the use okay, if not they can contact me and discussion may take place. Can we now cease this discussion which has degenerated into a slanging match. I do not claim to speak for a majority of ss members, I doubt that the majority of ss members may even be aware of this discussion. Many who are have perhaps chosen not to speak out one way or another. Something else for Varouj to perhaps theorise upon. But really I would like to see an end to this. Let us be friends and get on with what we should be enjoying rather than tear each other apart.

The wheels go round and round. IVOR, you just don’t get it do you? It’s not driven by emotion, it’s MORALS. Do you know what that is? I have become numb with trying to explain things to you, as you are pig headed and will not listen. I don’t care if you have 100,000 songs or 1,000,000 pictures, once again it’s the content, the art we have created. Unless you have a degree in medicine I wonder what gives you the notion to try and diagnose folks.

This is a brain surgery of IVOR’s comment Oct 4th Epistle. I have read all Ivor’s comments it’s like a ferris wheel in an amusement park and I have had enough of nonsense comments. This is a direct reply to his circular theory statements. I have parceled Ivor’s comments to 16 parts so I can understand in order to respond. His comments are convoluted words of gymnastics and some ballet. I was going to hold back not post this comments but I decided to share.

    1) I have become the bogeyman to most of you. But I am sure there are many on the sidelines are intrigued and even perhaps entertained by this debate and where it is heading.

“Ivor is playing the words of self pity victim hood. Then he adds a SUPPOSITION most people are entertained by his crack nut theories to his debate”

    2) I agree with what most of you are saying. It is wrong to take someone’s work and claim as your own. I can not agree more. It is plainly wrong to do this.

Reply #2 (IVOR AGREES using a double negation sentence)
“Hallelujah Ivor agrees” Let’s see how long it will last the agreement. Hmmm.

    3) But in putting together a slide show, unless you own the copyright to all the content, it is not entirely all your work.

Reply #3 (IVOR personal reflections with DISAGREEMENT)
“Ooops, Ivor admits a disagreement with his earlier statement in item 2. That was a short life”

    4) Most slides shows in the entertainment area of Slide share use content created by others. This content has been used by you the submitter of the slide show, I would say in most cases, without the permission of the original copyright holder. This is also piracy.

WELL SAID IVOR. “Ooops, Ivor is now theorizing with prophetic message of MUMBO JUMBO purity, legalism with his insanity presumptions. My personal assessment of Ivor’s theory:

    a) We must be copyright violation using Webster’s dictionary words in the English language.

    b) We must be copyright violation when we purchase a CD or purchases music download from WEB for our own private use to apply to our personal slideshows.

    c) We must be all in copyright violation for viewing PowerPoint slideshows on SS since they were violated by the original creator. A bit exaggeration in similarity to IVOR’s theory.

In summary, my point is that in some people’s minds the earth is really OVAL SHAPE because of the folks like IVOR. They will argue and debate and vacillate to endless parameters for the sake of purity, holiness and righteousness. IVOR we are on SS not the WEB. SS is a private website. Let’s not try to theories the abstract universe (WEB) in the debate.

    5) To steal a slide show in its entirety from one and then claim the show, without any changes as your own is most definitely wrong.

Reply #5 (IVOR AGREES thus joining “MORAL HIGH GROUND” his words)
“Halleluiah IVOR agrees for the 2nd time” Let’s see how long it will last this time. Hmmm.

    6) To use a section of a slide show as a source of content for a slide show that you are creating is no different to using a photograph, painting or animation sourced anywhere else on the web.

Reply #6 (IVOR at its BEST)

Not so IVOR. This is another one of your juggling perverted theories’ “YOU ARE WRONG”.
The fact that you try to justify by applying this sneaky cowardly approach from other slide share members instead of going out on the web finding your own materials shows no class of originality or artistry.
You have done this to one of spiderweb’s slideshow a month ago and you were caught red handed. Once you were challenged for copying her slides you acknowledged and apologized to her as well as deleted the slide show. You are a spineless weasel with your words.

The reputable folks on Slideshare that create their slideshows do not need to belittle their artistic and creative talents to take the easy way of stealing from other SS members slideshows. So please do not attempt to compare these people to your level of character.

If you want to create your slideshows use the web as your source and personal creativity instead of stealing from fellow SS member’s slideshows by download the slides and cherry picking the ones to your preference. I call this mod of operand as an act of desperation.

    7) Copying one’s style has also been commented upon. I recognize that a ’signature style’ may develop. Adriana from Romania has such a style. Helga of Brazil has such a style quite a few members of slideshare have a ’signature style’. I have not seen any copying of a ’signature style’. But I guess there maybe some.

Reply #7 (IVOR in a state of reflection contemplating “PERHAPS THOSE HE DISAGREES WITH MAY HAVE A POINT”)

Should you associate on SS with people that share honest, decent core values, truth, and integrity with sincere moral characters there are allot of things you will learn and be better informed instead of jawing off bunch of repetition to your theories that are BS.

There are more then some SS members that all they are doing copying other SS members shows verbatim and sometimes playing games with the slide cover page to change though the rest of the slideshow is exact replica of the originator. These plagiarizers, copycats are documented and reported my friend.

    8) To claim the moral high ground as many are doing in this debate, is hypocritical in my view when many. Perhaps even most, are in fact guilty of taking content from other artisans being they photographers, musicians, painters, poets etc without their permission..

Reply #8 (IVOR rebuking SS members the MORAL HIGH GROUND lecture)
There you go again with the same comments regurgitated. You must be a politician. We know all are alike. I see them in the news.

    9) I would say that my views do not seem to be supported by most of those involved in this debate.

Reply #9 (IVOR reaching the state of enlightenment)
Your conclusion is precisely correct. The best thing said.

    10) But be honest with yourself. Have I not explained that piracy involves more than taking one’s slideshow and then presenting it as your own? Here I state once again that I totally agree that is wrong. It is misrepresentation at its worst.

Reply #10 (IVOR in state of REGURGETATING)
This sounds like an oxymoron statement. Ivor is once again speaking on both sides from the mouth. IVOR is just debating with self. This is a common denominator self reflection to analysis and paralysis. I call brain gymnastic amusement park.

    11) But do all your slide shows contain all your own work or are it a compilation of works of others that you have put together in a particular format (a set of slides to be viewed and enjoyed on a computer).

Reply #11 (IVOR state of confusion and regurgitating)
Ha….. IVOR is now really confused in his own short to the point of NAVAL GAZING in the midst of PONTIFICATION. (God give us patience to endure this madness)

    12) You started the debate by asking for comment. I have commented much to the annoyance of those who do not see what I am saying. I have been accused of being ’blinkered’. I do not believe that I am so blinkered, in that I have looked and commented on a range of piracy involved in creating slide shows. I have not just looked at the copying of a slideshow and claiming the work as your own. That to me is being ’blinkered’.

Now we see IVOR’s self guilt inflictions. Interesting comments he is beginning to debate with himself as to if he is being “blinkered” (narrow minded, rigid, and dogmatic).

After some debate IVOR reaches the conclusion that he is right. IVOR is now on planet MARS self amused that his theory comes from the universe and the rest of us are on planet EARTH.

    13) Some may wish the wrath of God upon me, but as I said in an earlier posting ’Let he who is without sin cast the first stone’. We have all, whether intentially or unintentially taken from someone something that may not be ours to take. I am not excusing ‘Piracy’; I am stating a fact that we are all guilty in one way or another.

IVOR places upon himself more self anguish and guilt trips. In desperation expresses a famous biblical quote that Jesus made ’Let he who is without sin cast the first stone’. Now IVOR is on a SIN TRIP. He states “WE ARE ALL SINERS” and no excuse to “PIRACY”. IVOR declares “WE ARE ALL GUILTY”. WOW, can you believe what goes though this matador’s mind daily.

    14) Some have referred me to the community guidelines and to creative commons in an attempt to push their argument. I have not seen anything on either page that supports their argument, rather I have seen what I have said in relation to copyright ownership information that supports what I have tried to convey in this debate.

Now here IVOR is wearing an off white toupee (WIG, HORSE HAIR) as the lawyers do in England and interpreting the law of the land.
IVOR declares that he is correct on the copyright ownership. His verdict “YOU ARE ALL LAWLESS CHEATERS and SINNERS”

    15) Now please let us get back to doing what we enjoy. Let us get back to creating entertaining slide shows. We are not going to change the world.

Reply #15 (IVOR the COMRADE and PEACEMAKER)
IVOR declares TRUCE with a HUG TO ALL folks for PEACE. He rationalizes by saying we can not change the world because there are too many sinners. The old COOM BAYA (let us all live happily there after).

    16) As I said in an earlier posting let us agree to disagree. We do not need the grief of attacking one another, let us respect that everyone has a view and some may differ to our own. It would be boring if we were all the same.

Oh but I’m not quiet finished. The last word the debate is over. Life would be too boring if we were all the same. THANK GOODNESS TO YOUR FINAL STATEMENT. The big question one needs to ask. What would this place be if we all be like IVOR?

I never new TRUTH, INTEGRITY, HONESTY were core values with a two sided coin that sometimes is HEADS and other times is TAILS.

I would love to hear IVOR’s theory on which came first the CHICKEN or the EGG. I’m sure it would be very entertaining to discover.

YOU BE THE JUDGE OF THIS INSANITY THEATRICS.

IVOR, In spite of what you may think we think of you. We still “LOVE YOU” and wish you the best.

Perhaps part of the problem here is emotion. Artistic people are commonly perceived to being emotional. Let us get back to the art of creating slide shows, Trinity. You have admitted in your earlier comments that you believe that music and photographs on the net are free to be taken and used in slideshows. I have pointed out to you that is not necessarily the case, and especially so with music. To take what is copyright without permission is illegal. But most have done so. Permission granted to me to use music was given way back in 1965, mostly by the record manufacturers and some by the recording artists themselves. The music I use comes from my own library of more than 20000 tracks and not from the web. You want to have the last word on this. You may do so but please let it be factual and logical and not emotional.

IVOR.....YOU DO NOT GET TO HAVE THE LAST SAY IN THIS.....
  • + metropoll Ivor Jones 1 month ago
I agree Doina, let us now get on and enjoy our hobby, take pride in our creations and try to respect each and every one and also respect their views, which may differ. I did ask 'what is style?' To me it is hard to describe but I do recognise that various contributors do have a style or what I would say a 'signature style' which flows through all of their slideshows. With my presentation I believe it is more obvious on the first and last slide. Over time these signature styles evolve as members learn and try new techniques or perhaps use a later version of Powerpoint. We learn more from each other as we view each other’s slideshows. We say to ourselves 'I wonder how they did that to get that particular effect?' 'Where did they find that?' or many other questions. With that we progress in our work. I take pride in my slideshows, some when I look back upon however I may cringe a little. But I view my slideshows as not only my work but it is made possible only by the work of others. I hold permission from some to reproduce their work. But like many of you, perhaps even most of you, I too have used items found on the net. It is not always easy to find who the original copyright holder maybe. But perhaps if they see my work they will contact me. They maybe happy with my treatment of their work or they may not and then we discuss. Now enough of this and let us get back to what we enjoy.

    Piracy or original work?!?

What is to add at all these comments ???
I was asked for to comment what “a style” in PowerPoint is meaning.

Well, the style in PowerPoint is meaning that way to express your work over images and sound with the tools of this nice, exciting program, POWERPOINT!
It is talent and also pleasure!
    It is a dream!
    It is a reality, also!

Our presentations are unique in a way that it is not easy to describe!
This way comes from inside and from deep feelings!

We have few important reasons when we work in PowerPoint: the performance and the hobby, the desire for to enjoy ourselves and you all!
THE NET…. (how nice it sounds!!!) is generous with us; it gives us all….!!!
MUSIC, IMAGES,… INFORMATIONS ABOUT HOW TO WORK IN POWERPOINT….. (in our case), FRIENDS, MEMORIES, THE PRESENT,… THE FUTURE!!!!

    What it will be soon?
We have to accept that we all here , at Cecilia’s show, are friends and that we want the best!
We want RESPECT and we want OUR WORK to be also respected!

The style in PowerPoint is something that breath in each page in Slideshare!
Part of us are originals, part are NOT originals!

Let we go on with our creations and let we respect this program!!!

    Doina

Say No To Piracy - Presentation Transcript

  1. SAY NO to PIRACY
  2. There is a huge difference
    between imitating a man
    and counterfeiting him!
  3. If you steal our shows, you steal a part of me.
Piracy is a crime, so don’t do it!
  4. Stealing shows is not the key to creativity.
    Get permission first.
  5. If you like my shows, then take the links and share with friends.
To steal my show is like you stole my soul.
  6. Make me proud, strut your own stuff!
  7. We have a serious problem of piracy.
We need to ban permanently, be more forceful, and have effective measures to curb it.
  8. Excuse me,
    would you please
be so kind as to not steal my show?
  9. Robbery on Slideshare; the taking of shows from others; without permission and with intent to use; is a violation of the Terms of Service and is akin to robbery.
  10. Don’t be a pirate matey,
    observe copyright.
  11. Piracy has no
    bounds.
  12. Look, we don’t need guys like you, who steal our shows and claim as yours.
  13. The Internet is both great and terrible.
As a source of information, a tool for delivering music and art, it’s great.
But piracy of shows is terrible.
    It’s stealing!
  14. Piracy is desperation.
“Desperation is like stealing : you stand a good chance of attracting the wrong attention
    for the wrong reason”
  15. We don’t want your kind here.
There’s no room for PIRATES on Slideshare,
so take your gear and disappear.
You won’t be missed from here.
  16. The only thing
    worth stealing is a
    kiss from a sleeping
    child.
  17. Stealing and cheating
    are next door
    neighbors…
  18. If you lie, cheat, and steal, you’re just
    not doing it right!
  19. We’ve had it.
They’ve been stealing our shows and we need to hold them accountable.
