Many years ago, the Romans honored the goddess Juno, guardian of women and marriage.
At the festival, all unmarried people played a special game. All the females wrote their names on pieces of paper and dropped them into a big jar. Then, all the males picked up names from the jar and spent the festival dancing with that woman.
The night before his death, he left a note on the wall of his cell for the woman he loved. He signed this note: “From Your Valentine”. He died on the 14 th of February.
Nowadays, people exchange love and friendship messages. They give simple presents too, such as flowers, and they always sign it: “From Your Valentine”.

Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet and so are you. And so are they that send you this and when we meet we’ll have a kiss . Plenty of love tons of kisses I hope one day to be your Mrs. My love is like a cabbage divided into two, the leaves I give to the others, the heart I give to you. If life should end tomorrow and from this world I should part, I shall be forever young for you have touched my heart.
