  3. 3. Itinerary Day 1 <ul><ul><li>7:30 am - Leave from IST with a packed lunch and water bottle from home. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>1:00 pm - Approximate arrival at Mikumi. Settle into bandas. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2:15 pm - Maharaka local school students arrive. Icebreaker activity. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>2:30-3:30 pm - Park warden to give a talk about Mikumi animals and answer questions. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>3:45-5:15 pm - Game park drive with Maharaka students. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>5:15 pm - Buddy tour of bandas </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>6:00 pm – Dinner; Maharaka students leave. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>7:30 pm - Class meeting/activity/quiet journal/reading time </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>8:45 pm - Lights out </li></ul></ul>

Itinerary Day 3 <ul><li>6:00am - Wake-up </li></ul><ul><li>6:30 am - Breakfast </li></ul><ul><li>7:30 am - Depart for Udzungua with packed lunches from Kikaboga </li></ul><ul><li>10:00 am – 3:00 pm - Udzungua waterfall hike: biodiversity focus, medicinal plant study and identification. </li></ul><ul><li>3:00 – 4:00 pm - Return to Mikumi. </li></ul><ul><li>4:00 pm - Reading painting, drawing, swim, journal reflections and Banda time </li></ul><ul><li>6:30 pm - Dinner </li></ul><ul><li>7:30 pm - Class meeting/ Folktales/quiet time </li></ul><ul><li>8:45 pm - Lights out </li></ul>

Safety Precautions <ul><li>Each trip has 5 adults per 21 students: a school nurse, a certified swim teacher , a Kiswahili speaker, as well as a male and female teacher </li></ul><ul><li>Risk assessment form </li></ul><ul><li>Medical information </li></ul><ul><li>Askaris </li></ul><ul><li>Bus plus extra 4 wheel drive. Two school drivers </li></ul><ul><li>Communication (mobiles/emergency numbers) </li></ul>

What to Pack <ul><li>Packed lunch for Day 1 </li></ul><ul><li>Non-perishable healthy snacks for Days 2 -4 in a sealed bag or plastic container (so not to attract animals) </li></ul><ul><li>clothing that can be layered – enough clothing for 4 days; students are expected to change clothes daily. </li></ul><ul><li>(t-shirts, sweater, long, comfortable pants, shorts, sneakers/walking shoes, sandals) </li></ul><ul><li>Toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, deodorant, feminine hygiene products for girls); please do not pack perfumes or colognes; Students will be expected to wash everyday. </li></ul><ul><li>Bath towel </li></ul><ul><li>Insect repellent and sunscreen (please put names on these) </li></ul><ul><li>torch/flashlight </li></ul><ul><li>a couple of good books </li></ul><ul><li>pencil with eraser and a pen, drawing/coloring </li></ul><ul><li>personal medication (malaria pills) </li></ul><ul><li>swimming suit/ towel /goggles if wanted </li></ul><ul><li>hat </li></ul><ul><li>water bottle and small cooler/lunch bag for snacks </li></ul><ul><li>Small backpack or bag to bring onto bus for snacks, water, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Small change – around 10,000Tsh </li></ul>

Optional but useful <ul><li>binoculars </li></ul><ul><li>camera </li></ul><ul><li>mp3 with headphones for the ride to and from Mikumi </li></ul><ul><li>games (cards etc) </li></ul><ul><li>bird and wildlife identification books </li></ul>Students will be expected to take full responsibility for all personal items-- please label everything with your child’s name.
