  6. 6. Saint George was a knight.The legend says that hekilled a dragon, thatlived in a town calledMontblanc, in order to savea princess.He became the patron Saintof Catalonia.
  7. 7. St. Georges Day has been celebrated since 1436.In Catalonia St. Georges day coincides with the Fairof the Book and the Rose.
  8. 8. On this day every man offers a rose to his loved one(wife or fiancée), and in return she gives him a book.The book is in memory of Cervantes.This customwas started in 1926,to commemorate Cervantesdeath (authorof "Don Quijote").
  9. 9. Pupils write poems and stories because we celebrate aliterary contest. The winners get a rose.We also organise a book exchange.
  10. 10. People eat “Saint George’s bread”. It is a type ofbread made with “sobrassada”, which is a Mallorcanspicy pork sausage that can be spread. The breadlooks like the Catalan flag. Sobrassada Saint George’s bread
