  • Why Use the Web?
    • Lack of community resources, or community specific barriers pose challenges for traditional methods of parenting education
    • Parents want convenient and age-appropriate information
    • Parenting 24/7 was developed as a way to provide timely, research-based information that parents could access 24/7
  • Parenting 24/7 Website
    • Organized by age of children (birth – 18)
    • Focuses on issues that are commonly cited by parents as challenging
    • Features include:
      • Research-based articles, links to breaking news and recommended websites, streaming video clips of parents talking about problems, age-paced newsletters
  • Purpose of the Study
    • To evaluate the use and effectiveness of the Parenting 24/7 website,
    • To better understand the needs and preferences of online users
  • Methods
    • Data from website usage statistics (from September 2005 through November 2009)
    • Online survey
      • E-mail invitation sent to registered users ( in 2006 and 2009)
      • An article was posted on the site to recruit non-registered users (2009)

    • Included questions about general use of P247 and asked users to:
      • compare it other parenting websites
      • rate its overall usefulness, and compare it to other sources of information
      • rate whether the information increased parenting knowledge or skills
      • rate their likelihood of using specific features
      • indicate how they use technology (2009 only )
