  • OffBeat Music Magazine • Offbeat is a monthly music magazine which was first published in 1988 in New Orleans, Louisiana • It covers a wide range of music including R&B, blues, brass bands, jazz, cajun music, zydeco, rock, hip-hop, Mardi Gras Indian and New Orleans brass band music, funk and independent singer-songwriter genres. • It’s a very useful information source for the New Orleans and Louisiana music lovers as this magazine promotes and supports the local music community. This magazine also includes club listings and disc reviews.
  • • In addition to the monthly magazine, Offbeat presents “The Best of the Beat Awards” celebrating local music and musicians • OffBeat also publishes “Louisiana Music Directory” which is a directory found online including listings of bands, musicians, record labels, etc • The magazine also has an “OffBeat Weekly Beat” which is a weekly email newsletter for free. It is mainly about the breaking news and current music listings
  • History • OffBeat.com was the first magazine to have an online website in the state of Louisiana • Keeping the readers notified about whats happening in New Orleans music, in 2010, OffBeat launched an Iphone application called OffBeat Mobile keeping •
  • Front page There are different musicians shown on the cover which represent how the magazine covers a wide range of music. The photographs aren’t professional from a photo shoot or such which gives the impression that the people are being promoted from the local community. The colors of the mast head match with the theme of the front cover which is bright and colourful. The multi coloured front page could also represent the different cultures and how the music genres vary The gentleman holding the guitar instantly gives an idea to the readers about what the magazine is about and that’s; music and musicians.
  • Why its different? • OffBeat's support for the local music community has greatly contributed to the promotion of the scene and music in general in Mew Orleans and throughout the state of Louisiana. • It mainly focuses on the music scene of New Orleans and Louisiana, the region's culture and its cuisine. • Its free of charge in metro New Orleans in records stores, hotels etc but is charged throughout anywhere else
  • Two special issues • In spring, OffBeat published two special issues: "French Quarter Festival Souvenir Guide” early April; and a special Jazz Fest issue (the “Jazz Fest Bible,”. This included festival schedules, detailed information about performers and club listings, interviews with local musicians and such
  • The publisher Jan Ramsey started OffBeat more than two decades ago as an effort to improve and expand local music culture and business. She has been a music activist since the early 1980s and loves local culture. She is a native New Orleanian and a (former) good Catholic girl
