Ashwa Racing has ventured into Combustion Formula style race car prototypes since 2003 until recently also diversified into developing Hybrid and Electric Formula style race car prototype. Key reason being to participate in the Hybrid category of the Formula Student SAE event. This being a strategy driven initiative which will help the team in expanding its technical expertise as well as being in tune with green technology requirements.

Moreover, ashwa Racing aspires to be a part of niche club of Indian teams participating in the Formula Hybrid event. The Hybrid event poses a great deal of challenges before the students, requiring a harmonious blend of both mechanical and electrical aspects of engineering to build a worthy prototype.

The Team works in a very organized manner just like an Industry and attaining standards of an International Formula Student Racing team and the team is structured in such a way so as to produce all round individuals and capable engineers .

  3. 3. R.V. College of Engineering Ashwa racing •The FORMULA SAE (FSAE) competition is for students to conceive design and fabricate and compete with formula style open wheel race cars. •Sanctioned by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), the concept of the competition is that a manufacturing firm has engaged a design team to produce a prototype formula car for evaluation as a potential production item. •Vehicles are judged on their design, cost, manufacturability, serviceability and most importantly the performance •Formula SAE represents the very pinnacle of motorsport for the student community and it attracts participants of the highest caliber, from major universities around the world. • The aim of Formula SAE is to give the students a taste of the challenges they face in the real world and to develop their ability to analyze and handle real life situations and to be competent engineers Stuttgart FSAE Team TU Graz FSAE Team Ashwa Racing Team What is FSAE?

  31. 31. R.V. College of Engineering Ashwa racing •F1 in Schools is an international competition for school children (aged 9–19), in which groups of 3 - 6 students have to design and manufacture a miniature "car" out of balsa wood using CAD/CAM design tools. •The cars are powered by CO2 cartridges and are attached to a track by a nylon wire. •They are timed from the moment they are launched to when they pass the finish line by a computer. •The cars have to follow specific guidelines (e.g. the wheels of the car must be in contact the track at all times). • The cars are raced on an 80-foot (24 m) long track with two lanes, to allow two cars to be raced simultaneously. ASHWA RACING –F1 IN SCHOOLS
  32. 32. R.V. College of Engineering Ashwa racing •Software called F1 Virtual Wind Tunnel was designed specifically for the challenge. F1 Virtual Wind Tunnel or F1 VWT uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate air resistance on the "cars" made in the CAD. •The competition is currently operational in over 40 different countries. •The competition was first introduced in the UK in 1999. •The competition's aim was, and still is, to introduce younger people to engineering in a more fun environment. •The challenge inspires students to use IT to learn about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacture, branding, graphics, sponsorship, marketing, leadership/teamwork, media skills and financial strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way. •The competition is held annually, with Regional and National Finals. •The overall winners of the National Finals are invited to compete at the World Finals, which are held at a different location each year, usually held in conjunction with a Formula One Grand Prix.
