Introduction </li></ul><ul><li>1.1 What is I-mode ? </li></ul><ul><li>A brand & a service launched by NTT DoComo, Japan for Wireless internet connection at the touch of a button on a cell phone. </li></ul><ul><li>Very light weight I-mode phone handset with Cellular phone and internet facility </li></ul><ul><li>Anytime / Anywhere Communication at “Reasonable Cost”. </li></ul><ul><li>Internet service using PDC-P ( Per Digital Cellular – Packet ). </li></ul><ul><li>Uses subset of HTML 3.0 for content description. </li></ul><ul><li>“ Always On” internet connection based on Packet data transmission tech. </li></ul>

B.E Computer Seminar <ul><li>1.2 Getting into I-mode </li></ul><ul><li>Most popular in Japan with 28 million users subscribed to it & is still growing at the rate of 45,000 subscribers per day. </li></ul><ul><li>Access to more than 66,000 internet sites as well as specialized services like email, e-banking, e-shopping etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Access is not limited only to I-mode & I-mode compatible through the internet but also a lease-line circuit access for added security. </li></ul>

B.E Computer Seminar <ul><li>1.3 Content Description </li></ul><ul><li>Compact HTML ( cHTML ) is used in I-mode. </li></ul><ul><li>A competing wireless Protocol to WML that is used in WAP. </li></ul><ul><li>Optimized form of HTML with some special tags providing extra related to mobile environment. </li></ul><ul><li>Allows efficient transfer of data over bandwidth limited air interface of mobile n/w via a gateway and can be useful to deliver info directly to handsets. </li></ul><ul><li>Additional tags which include symbols for joy, kisses, love, encircled numbers, telephone etc. </li></ul>

B.E Computer Seminar <ul><ul><li>1.3.1 Requirements </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>To Realise the WWW browsing for small deviecs a Browser is required </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>to surf the net. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Browser software requires a small memory of 150-200kbytes for working data and 150-200 kbytes for the program code. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Minimum CPU requirements are about 1-2 MIPS </li></ul></ul>

Technical Objective </li></ul><ul><li>To provide personal internet web & mail service on digital cellular phone network- PDC ( Personal Digital Cellular ). </li></ul><ul><li>Packet mode to enable charges only on the amount of data downloaded. </li></ul><ul><li>Mail : Push mail delivery to make the phone attractive. </li></ul><ul><li>Web : subset of HTML to lower the entry barrier for content providers by enabling them to use the existing tools and contents. </li></ul><ul><li>IP Technology to enable I-mode </li></ul><ul><li>HTTP , SMTP , TCP/ IP. </li></ul>
