Evaluation q1 part 2
1. Editing
There are a variety of different speeds of editing are used to represent the
different feelings within the trailer. The slow motion that I edited into the
trailer connotes mystery, it makes you want to know why it has
happened, who it is, etc. I used slow motion editing for when the car has
crashed to show the sadness that the crash and death will have caused.
Also in the scene where the money is handed over, the slow motion here
makes you wonder who it is and why the money has been given.
Fast paced editing is used to show anger and worry, it is also used to represent
the panic and heart beat. The mysterious theme is continued throughout the
scene by keeping the identity of the killer hidden. I have edited the footage
we took so that there face is not revealed by cutting the scene just as they
are about to appear. The fast paced editing is also accompanied by the
increased tempo of the music this give even more emotion to the trailer.
Naturalist lighting is used throughout the trailer to give a gritty and realistic feel
to the soap.
2. This medium close up shot is used to show a relationship between two people, many
other soaps such as Hollyoaks do the same things to show some sort of bond
between the two characters. The scene and settings are both intimate and are set in a
romantic scenarios, e.g.. Picnic and countryside.
Intimacy and a relationship bond are shown in both scenes, in my
trailer it is highlighted to the audience that the two people are a
couple by the closeness of heads, the leaning on one another and
the hand on the shoulder. In the Hollyoaks scene intimacy is
shown through both characters leaning in for a kiss.
The camera was brought down to eye line so that the audience
feel connected to the characters and feel that they are in the
room.
3. In the Hollyoaks trailer and
The Grove trailer there are
two similar scenes where a
phone is used. In The
Grove trailer a text
message has been
received and in the
Hollyoaks trailer the text
message is being sent, a
close up of the phone
shows the audience what
is being sent/received. As
it is a close up of the
device, the audience
cannot see the person who
is sending/receiving the
message. This creates
mystery as the audience
will want to know who it is
and what its about.
4. In the scene from my
trailer and the scene
from coronation street
the villain’s face is not
revealed to the viewers.
This creates suspense
and mystery as they
want to know who it is,
why they did it and
what's going to happen
next.
5. Both my trailer and the
soap pictured below are
two soaps that will be
shown after the
watershed allowing
gruesome images such
as blood and violence to
be shown. In first trailer
a slow camera pan is
used to indicate the
person is hurt/dead. In
the second scene, the
woman is being
attacked, quick editing
is used to show panic.
6. In these two scenes a
panning shot is used
to show the damage to
the car and then to the
results of the crash.
The pan in both
scenes is performed
slowly to increase the
tension. It makes the
audience believe what
they are about to see
will shock them.
7. The clothing
Tyson wore in
this scene are
stereotypical to
what a drug
dealer would
wear, the dark
clothing helped
create mise en
scene.
In the drug dealing scene of my trailer, James walks
down the alley way towards Tyson. In this shot we
see that Tyson looks the more powerful and calm
one from his position, James looks the more
vulnerable one as he is walking with his head down
and hands in his pockets. We used this shot as
Tyson looks big and intimidating and James looks
small and weak.
8. A medium close up of the hand suggests something dodgy
is happening as both characters have not addressed the
item in its proper name calling it ‘stuff’. The way they are
passing the object suggests they are trying to hide
something.
9. Both of these scenes involve
fighting, an over the shoulder
shot is used to show the facial
expressions. In my trailer the
over the shoulder shot is used
to show the fear in the
victim, whereas in the
Hollyoaks trailer the over the
shoulder shot is used to show
the anger of the attacker.
The fight scene in our
trailer was filmed with a
handheld camera, this
was used to make the
audience feel that they
were involved with the
fight and part of the
action.
10. A zoom is used in both
of these scenes to show
the emotion and facial
expressions of the
characters. This allows
the audience to see the
reaction to what is
happening. Both scenes
begin with medium
close up of what is
causing the character to
react and the zoom
captures the reaction.
11. A parallel narrative was used in this scene
by switching from one scene to
another and back again, this made
the audience nervous as they knew
what was about to happen and
created suspense.
