Client: NACS - The Association for Convenience & Petroleum Retailing Issue: NACS has an annual trade show that attracts 22,000 attendees and 1,200 exhibitors annually. Large trade shows such as NACS typically have their own branded on-site daily newspaper to act as the communication tool for the association, attendees and exhibitors. NACS did not. Outside publishers provided non-official show dailies for the NACS trade show. These dailies offered little in the way of editorial coverage and primarily served as advertising revenue generators for their respective magazines, but not for NACS. In effect, the NACS trade show provided these outside publishers with a predatory opportunity to cannibalize trade show marketing dollars away from participating exhibitors at NACS while offering no value to the association. NACS wanted and needed its own branded on-site daily to communicate its message to the attendees of its own trade show. The problem for NACS is that it didn’t budget to provide this service. Solution: Ascend provided a fully turnkey solution in which we underwrote the cost to produce three on-site issues of the show daily for NACS. Ascend custom-produced the daily to the specifications and editorial guidance of NACS. Ascend also worked jointly with the NACS sales staff to sell the sponsorship and advertising positions to NACS exhibitors in order to support the publishing effort. Result: NACS received a 3-issue show daily that was fully-branded to the NACS trade show. All editorial content was provided to satisfy NACS requirements and needs. NACS did not have to budget any financial resources to the project and fully owned all content and messaging. Expanding the Possibilities of Custom Media
  • 32. We Solve See how we’ve solved communication issues for others and imagine what problems we could fix for you. Client: American College of Cardiology Issue: We produce the Exhibitor Prospectus for ACC. This publication provides all prospective exhibitors with the facts, details and action items for them to become an exhibitor at the ACC annual meeting. This is an extremely important publication for both the College and its prospective exhibitors. The piece is produced at a high level of production in a small quantity and is a relatively expensive product. ACC wanted to reach a greater audience within each potential exhibiting company without negatively affecting its budget. The audience wasn’t a greater number of companies but a larger number of decision-makers within those targeted companies. Solution: We provided ACC with both a printed and an electronic version of its Exhibitor Prospectus. We wanted to combine the design and layout of the print version with the functionality offered by an electronic presentation. We chose a “Flipbook” presentation to make the content available online. This Flipbook model provides a similar look and feel as its print counterpart. You can flip pages just as you would a print piece. You can easily jump back and forth from one section to another. Sizing can be increased/decreased for ease in viewing. Hyperlinks can be embedded into the text so that you can easily move from the publication to the ACC website. The Flipbook can be easily transmitted by email to colleagues and associates. Results: Providing the Exhibitor Prospectus in the online form of a “Flipbook” increased the reach of the publication without any significant addition to the budget.
