Q&A/Bios and contacts Kevin Davis is an award-winning journalist, author and magazine writer based in Chicago. He is a former crime reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. His writing has appeared in USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, Utne Reader, In These Times, American Bar Association Journal, Reader’s Digest, USA Weekend, Encyclopaedia Britannica and many other publications. He is the author of two nonfiction books on the criminal justice system, The Wrong Man, and Defending the Damned. In addition, Davis has authored eight nonfiction children’s books. Davis is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Studies, as well as a part-time journalism instructor at Loyola University Chicago. He also teaches a writing class for detainees at the Cook County Jail. E-mail: kevdav@sbcglobal.net. Andrea Hanis joined Crain's Chicago Business in June 2004 as assistant managing editor. She launched and edits the award-winning “Business of Life” section as well as related online and multimedia content. Hanis worked for the Chicago Sun-Times from 1993 to 2004, where she was lifestyles editor, travel editor, deputy daily features editor, and assistant Sunday Showcase editor. As travel editor, she won two national Lowell Thomas awards for writing and editing, taught a travel writing class and made many public and media appearances. She worked as a copy editor at the Louisville Courier-Journal from 1990 to 1993 after receiving her journalism degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. She is a native of Whiting, Ind. She received her law degree cum laude from St. Louis University School of Law and her undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a former award-winning senior writer for the ABA Journal, the flagship magazine of the American Bar Association.   • 8. Q&A/Bios and contacts Kevin Davis is an award-winning journalist, author and magazine writer based in Chicago. He is a former crime reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. His writing has appeared in USA Today, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago magazine, Utne Reader, In These Times, American Bar Association Journal, Reader’s Digest, USA Weekend, Encyclopaedia Britannica and many other publications. He is the author of two nonfiction books on the criminal justice system, The Wrong Man, and Defending the Damned. In addition, Davis has authored eight nonfiction children’s books. Davis is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Chicago Graham School of Continuing Studies, as well as a part-time journalism instructor at Loyola University Chicago. He also teaches a writing class for detainees at the Cook County Jail. E-mail: kevdav@sbcglobal.net. Andrea Hanis joined Crain's Chicago Business in June 2004 as assistant managing editor. She launched and edits the award-winning “Business of Life” section as well as related online and multimedia content. Hanis worked for the Chicago Sun-Times from 1993 to 2004, where she was lifestyles editor, travel editor, deputy daily features editor, and assistant Sunday Showcase editor. As travel editor, she won two national Lowell Thomas awards for writing and editing, taught a travel writing class and made many public and media appearances. She worked as a copy editor at the Louisville Courier-Journal from 1990 to 1993 after receiving her journalism degree from Indiana University in Bloomington. She is a native of Whiting, Ind.
