In addition to fruit, manysmoothies include crushed ice, frozen fruit, honey or containsyrup and ice ingredients. They have a milkshake-likeconsistency that is thicker than slush drinks. They can alsocontain milk, yogurt or ice cream.Smoothies are often marketed to health-consciouspeople, and some restaurants offer add-ins such as soymilk, whey powder, green tea, herbal supplements, ornutritional supplement mixes.Smoothies became widely available in the United Statesin the late 1960s when ice cream vendors and healthfood stores began selling them.By the 1990s and 2000s, smoothies became available atmainstream cafés and coffee shops and in pre-bottledversions at supermarkets all over the world.
