  5. 5. Dr. Elattuvalapil Sreedharan <ul><li>Born on : 12 June 1932 in Palghat dist. Kerala </li></ul><ul><li>Studied at the Victoria College in Palghat </li></ul><ul><li>Graduated as an engineer from the Government Engineering College,kakinada </li></ul><ul><li>Short tenure as a lecturer in Civil engineering at the Kerala Polytechnic in Kozhikode </li></ul><ul><li>A year at the Bombay Port Trust as an apprentice , </li></ul><ul><li>He joined the Indian Railways in its Service of Engineers, through a nation- wide selection procedure, in the Southern Railway as a Probationary Assistant Engineer in December 1954. </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>He was appointed the CMD of Konkan Railway on contract in 1990 . Under his stewardship, the company executed its mandate in seven years. </li></ul><ul><li>He was made the managing director of Delhi Metro and by mid- 2005 , all the scheduled sections were completed by their target date or before and within their respective budgets. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>E.Sreedharan’s contribution to India's public transport system is beyond measure so he is CNN-IBN’s chosen one for Indian of the Year for the public service category – 2OO7. </li></ul>

  9. 9. Dr. E.Sreedharan – An Ideal Leader. <ul><li>1) Vision : </li></ul><ul><li>He believed that one day he could give Delhi a world-class metro rail project and change the meaning of urban transport in India. And that is exactly what he has done. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Dr. E.Sreedharan – An Ideal Leader. <ul><li>2) Punctuality & Passionate </li></ul><ul><li>He clocks in at work on the dot at 08:45 HRS (IST) every morning, 15 minutes before his staff. And admits that he is not a workaholic but he simply likes his job. </li></ul><ul><li>3) Optimum utilization of resources </li></ul><ul><li>With 56 kilometer on track and only two phases left to complete, the $2 billion project is running ahead of time and strictly within budget. </li></ul>

Dr. E.Sreedharan – An Ideal Leader. <ul><li>4) Devoted to work </li></ul><ul><li>For him, the job at hand is not just his duty but also his dharma . </li></ul><ul><li>Bureaucratic red tape tried to delay his work, contractors would not meet commitments and corruption threatened to slow him down. </li></ul><ul><li>5) Willpower ( Courageous) </li></ul><ul><li>However, Sreedharan never lost hope. Never lost the belief that one day he could give Delhi a world-class metro rail project and change the meaning of urban transport in India. And that is exactly what he has done. </li></ul>

Dr. E.Sreedharan – An Ideal Leader. <ul><li>6) Empathy and motivation </li></ul><ul><li>The employees attribute DMRC’s success to Dr. Sreedharan's &quot;leadership&quot; and the &quot; amiable and conducive working environment&quot; of the organization. </li></ul><ul><li>&quot;They were told that, because there was no fear of disciplinary action , employees are encouraged to utilize their potential to the maximum. </li></ul>

Dr. E.Sreedharan – An Ideal Leader. <ul><li>7) Change agent </li></ul><ul><li>The Konkan Railway project came to him after he had retired from the railways. </li></ul><ul><li>It was a daunting task----760 km of rail tracks from Mumbai to Kochi through the rugged mountains of the Western Ghats. </li></ul><ul><li>Environmentalists protested, politicians said it could never be done and the project ran short of money. But Sreedharan raised public bonds to finance it in an unprecedented manner . </li></ul>

Dr. Elattuvalapil Sreedharan <ul><li>8) SELFLESSNESS </li></ul><ul><li>An Indian technocrat , known for completing both the Konkan Railway and Delhi Metro projects within budget and ahead of schedule. </li></ul><ul><li>However, for the 76-year-old , </li></ul><ul><li>Managing Director </li></ul><ul><li>Builder </li></ul><ul><li>Executor of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, </li></ul><ul><li>the only reward he has ever wanted is the progress of his country. </li></ul>
  15. 15. <ul><li>He is not just a dreamer but also a builder , but most of all one who has dedicated his achievements to every Indian. </li></ul>
