Transcript of "Strawberry festival"

  1. 1. It may feel a bit early forstrawberries, but May isactually National StrawberryMonth and Peddler’s Villagewants to get the monthlongcelebration started. On Saturday, May 4, andSunday, May 5, from 10a.m. until 6 p.m., everythingstrawberry will take over thevillage — from sweet treatsto savory restaurant disheswith a splash ofstrawberries. The Strawberry Festivalcelebration originated aspart of the village’s firstevent, May Day, whichbegan in 1967 and evolvedinto today’s festival in 1978.May Day, held the first dayof May, celebrated thearrival of spring and thecoming fruit harvest. Sincestrawberries are the first fruit harvest of the season, it seemed fitting to combine the twocelebrations, according to Eve Gelman, public relations manager for Peddler’s Village.“This year’s festival is bigger and better than any before, because we have the most crafterswe’ve ever had,” Gelman said. A craft fair that spreads around the village will highlight artisansranging from jewelers and blacksmiths to photographers and woodworkers. Homemade honeywill be sold, along with beeswax candles, stained glass windows, handmade toys and pettreats. As the festival spans all day, visitors are sure to get hungry and Gelman assures them that theywill find a sweet strawberry treat everywhere they turn.StrawberryFestival
