SCRAMJET stands for S upersonic C ombustion RAMJET.
It is a variation of a ramjet distinguished by supersonic combustion.
Combustion process takes place at supersonic speeds.
The top speed of a scramjet engine (without additional oxidizer input) vary between Mach 12 and Mach 24
Working Principle
In a Scramjet, air enters the combustion chamber at supersonic speed and fuel is injected to it after the compression is over.
The air-fuel mixture gets ignited.
Due to the increase in the temperature of the gas, it rapidly expands and comes out with more thrust.

Applications of Scramjet Hypersonic Cruise Missile Access to Space Long-Range Strike
One of the best option for keeping a hypersonic vehicle from overheating is to circulate its fuel supply around the engine and through the airframe before combustion.
Leading edges must be sharp for aerodynamic efficiency. Make them too sharp, though, and they can’t radiate heat quickly enough.
Metal alloys ceramic matrix compositions can both be used in hypersonic airframe construction. Alloys are easy to manufacture, but they get weak at 3,000 0 F and above. Hence ceramic composition material is best suited for this application.
