Asia or Southwestern Asia
• describe the westernmost portion of Asia.
• partly coterminous with the Middle East, which describes a
geographical position in relation to Western Europe rather
than its location within Asia.
• due to this perceived Eurocentrism, international
organizations such as the United Nations, have
replaced Middle East and Near East with Western Asia.
• This region and Europe are collectively referred to
as Western Eurasia.

6. Geography
• is a small island state near the western
shores of the Persian Gulf. It is ruled by
the Al Khalifa royal family.
Topography
• Bahrain is a generally flat and
arid archipelago in the Persian Gulf, east
of Saudi Arabia. It consists of a low desert
plain rising gently to a low central
escarpment with the highest point the
134 m (440 ft) Mountain of Smoke (Jabal
ad Dukhan).
Climate
• Bahrain has mild winters and very hot,
humid summers.
• Dust storms from Iraq and Saudi Arabia
transported by northwesterly winds cause
reduced visibility in the months of June
and July.
7. • Bahrain is sometimes described as "Middle East lite“
due to its combination of modern infrastructure with a
Persian Gulf identity.
• Islam is the main religion, Bahrainis are known for
their tolerance towards the practice of other faiths.
• In common with the rest of the Muslim world, though
Bahrain has take strong strides for women's rights, it
does not recognise lesbian, gay, bisexual, and
transgender rights
• Another facet of the new openness is Bahrain's
status as the most prolific book publisher in the Arab
world, with 132 books published in 2005 for a
population of 700,000.
8. Iraq
• a country in Western
Asia spanning most of the
northwestern end of the Zagros
mountain range, the eastern
part of the Syrian Desert and
the northern part of the Arabian
Desert.
• Iraq borders Syria to the
northwest, Turkey to the
north, Iran to the east, Jordan to
the southwest
and Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to
the south. Iraq has a narrow
section of coastline measuring
58 km (36 mi) on the
northern Persian Gulf. The
capital city, Baghdad is in the
center-east of the country.
