Intentional Visualization Manifesto

161

Published on

Intentional visualization is more than just picturing something in your head. It’s about getting something down in some expressive format to be better cemented, iterated on, or shared with the world. I am fascinated with the process of early ideas and getting them out into the world through a highly creative and playful process.

I am in a creative profession (UX designer) and I still find myself getting stuck by rules in my head about what is and is not possible. So, I created this intentional visualization manifesto to free myself (and hopefully others) who are stopping themselves from truly being the creative, expressive person they are meant to be!

The truth is, visualizing ideas tells a story better than words, brings them into form and has the power to influence, bring people together and change lives. We should all be adding more of it into our daily lives, no matter what our discipline or artistic abilities.

FREE Your MindSometimes, it’s okay to not yet know the purpose for your self expression, beyondthe purpose of freeing your mind from its current way of thinking.Even these supposedly “purposeless” expressions are driven from some need inyour psyche and have the power to tell you something andmove your forward.

  7. 7. Embrace Your ImperfectionsYou do not have to have talent or be good at visualization to communicate your ideas throughcreative expression. And you should not expect to just automatically know everything the first timeyou try it.

  9. 9. Learn the Guidelines, Then BREAKThemMany great artists start by copying or learning from the ‘rules’ of others. You many not want to be agreat artist, and that’s okay. It’s still worth it to express yourself. After you have a handle on whatprinciples work for you, break free and do whatever you want that resonates with you and youraudience, the people that you want to share your work with.
