Students from 4th grade of Primary in Catalonia (Spain) participate in the project "School to School" promoted by Vicente Ferrer Organization. They describe their natural environnement and send their work to students from Anantapur (India), in order to have an exchange of experiences between the two cultures.

    • SPRINGSpring begins on March21 and ends June 23about.In spring flowers bloom,leaves appear in treesand the hibernatinganimals wake up.Its not very hot norvery cold. Thetemperature increasesand theres usually a lotof rain.Deciduous trees startdressing in green. There are many kind of flowers and colours: red, white, purple yellow... Many animals reproduce in spring. 3
    • SUMMERSummer is a hot season.The temperature is high (over35ºC in continental areas).Theres usually very littleprecipitation (rain) in summer. Summer begins in June and ends in September. We love this season because we have summer holidays and dont go to school. When were very hot in Sentmenat we can go to the swimming pool. Its open in summer. We can swim, play with friends and be fresh there. Its very fun. 4
    • AUTUMNAutumn begins onSeptember 21 andends on December21.Days become shorterand nights longer.Summer is goingaway and cold beginsto come.It often rains inautumn and itswindy too. Leaves of trees dry up and fall down. Its time for mushrooms. They grow up in wet forests. And its time for nuts: walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds, pine nuts. Pine-tree and other trees dont loose their leaves in autumn. They are evergreen trees. In autumn, a new school year begins. 5
    • WINTERWinter begins onDecember 21 and endson March 21 about.At the start of winter,the days are shorterthan the nights, thetemperature is low andtheres usually someprecipitation.At the end of winter, thedays start to get longer. Deciduous trees loose their leaves in winter and many animals hibernate. Picture: 6
    • WINTER is HEREIn winter its cold.Most days we havea temperatureunder 10 ºC at 9oclock in themorning, whenschool opens.Its often sunny inwinter. But sundoesnt heat toomuch.Many trees haveno leaves in winter. But in our environment there are many forests of evergreen trees. 7
    • WHITE WINTERIn winter its very, very cold andyou can go to the mountain toenjoy the snow.There you can ski, you can makea snowman, throw snowballs toother kids... and you can slidedown the mountain.Its very fun! Some years it snows in Sentmenat in winter. Its quite unusual. So kids, we are very happy when its snowing in our town! 8

    • THE WALKSpring is the bestseason to enjoy ournatural environment.And we do it!Every year, at theend of second term,teachers of PhysicalEducation organizesa Regularity Walk forstudents of Primary.The route is in thegreen environmentaround us. Spring isjust starting and nature is waking By small groups of students fromup! 7 to 12 years, we walk for over an hour on the itinerary marked: up the hill, through forest, by the fields, down the hill,.. and to school again. After walking everybodys happy to have done it! Its a special feeling. Be sure. 10

    • GUANTAIn Sentmenat there is a mountain named Guanta.You can go up on foot, by bike, riding horse or by car. Along the way you can find many plants and trees. Near the top there is a castle and a restaurant too.Following up there are many streams and ponds. Just on the top of themountain of Guanta there is a big waterfall. If you go on you find littleand mediumwaterfalls.You can arriveto: “Font deBou” (“Sourceof Beef”) anancient source ofdrinking water. 16
    • BARCELONABarcelona is a very big city.Its the capital of Catalonia.Barcelona is a very beautifulcity. It is limited to the Eastby the Mediterranean Sea, tothe North there is the Besòsriver and to the Souththeres Llobregat river.To the West of Barcelonathere is the Collserola rangewith a famous mountain: theTibidabo. In Barcelona you can go to the beach, have a sunbath, dive in the sea or you can board a ship in the port. On the mountain side, from Tibidabo (512m) you can enjoy spectacular views over the city and the coastline.So Barcelona is a very special city:its by the sea and in the mountainat the same time! 17
    • BY THE SEAThe places nearthe sea have amediterraneanclimate.The temperatureis high insummer and itsmoderate duringother seasons. There can be a lot of precipitation in autumn, but theres very litlle rain during spring, summer and winter. 18
    • RIVERS Rivers begin in the mountains. The place where a river begins is called the source. When a river leaves its source, it becomes wider. Rivers are filled with freshwater and give life to the land. Rivers flow to find a main river, a sea, ocean or a lake. 19
    • IN THE COUNTRYSIDEIf its sunny, inwinter and autumnwe can enjoy ournaturalenvironnement too. 20
    • IN THE MOUNTAIN Mountain areas have a mountain climate: Its cool in summer and the temperature is very low in winter. Theres a lot of precipitation all year and this falls as snow inPicture : winter.the Pedraforca is a mountain in the Pyrenees.Some deers are running free in spring. Picture : ”The Valley of Núria" is a south-opening valley coming down from the crest of the Pyrenees. 21
    • MOUNTAINS Catalonia has a mountanious relief. The most important mountain ranges are the Pyrenees and the Coastal ranges. 22
    • MONTSERRATMontserrat is a multi-peaked mountain locatednear the city of Barcelona.Its a part of the CatalanPre-Coastal Range.“Montserrat” literally means“serrated mountain” inCatalan. It describes the peculiar aspect of the rock formation. You can see it from a great distance. 23
    • MONTSENYThe Montseny massifis a part of theCatalan Pre-CoastalRange.The Park is home to awide variety of faunafrom Mediterranean toalpine.UNESCO designatedMontseny a biospherereserve in 1978. 24
