  • 6. • Zeolite is an organic, natural mineral, known as clinoptilolite. • By adding Zeolite to your daily feed ration, you can reduce wastewater ammonia in manure slurry, reduce phosphorus in dairy slurry, reduce emissions in manure, and reduce flies. • Zeolite is recognized as ‘Generally Recognized As Safe’ (GRAS).

Produce More Environmentally Benign Waste → The number one complaint filed with both state and federal environmental agencies against animal producers involves odors. → Aerosol ammonia is one of the primary causes of nuisance odors associated with confined animal feeding operations. → In addition to ammonia’s role as a component in nuisance odors, high levels of gaseous ammonia adversely affects animal health and the safety of people working in these environments.

Zeolite Soil Amendment When Zeolite is applied to the Soil: • Absorbs water molecules for plant growth • Increase plant nutrient efficiency • Remove heavy metals • Remove and lock up radiation • Increase crop yield • Zeolite helps to decrease diseases and increase the natural defense system of plants
  • 9. Land Applications of Drilling Fluids • High salt drilling fluids have resulted in the death of plants and severely damaged soils that have failed to recover even after many decades. (Denuded oil well land in west Texas pictured) • The use of clayey drilling fluids on sandy soils has improved water holding capacity and plant growth.
  • 10. Land-Farming or Land Applications • Land application is often preferred to reduce the costs of disposal, and may be conducted either on-site (where the drilling occurred) or at an off-site location. • Petroleum hydrocarbons including oil and grease can be toxic to plants in modest concentrations either due to direct contact or through adverse effects on soil properties. • Total soil hydrocarbon concentrations greater than 1% have been found to be toxic to most plant species and this level is normally considered the threshold between non-contamination and contamination.

Oxygen Levels In Soil • Soil oxygen levels are reduced because diffusion of oxygen through the oil and/or grease layer is poor and microbes use the available oxygen as they breakdown the oil. • Soil particles coated with oil can become hydrophobic which reduces water infiltration, drainage and storage in the soil, and its availability to plants.
