Aims of this Presentation To provide background about where the DVN is now, and how far it has come in the last 3 years. To inform about how the programme delivery has changed to be in line with flexible learning practice.
DVN Background Runs over two years Work experience – 2 full days p/w Assessments have lots of practical components Two block courses per year I have been redeveloping this course over the past 3 years
Who are the DVN Students? They are all distance students They are all qualified junior vet nurses They have all had at least 1 year in practice Many have had extensive experience in practice Nearly all are employed in practice Varied experience with computers
Distance Delivery How do students gain the needed experiences? Nurse mentors Fostering self-directed learning is very important for continuing development The varied experience level of the students – how do we accommodate them?
Goals for the Course Encouraging collaboration, exploration and self direction Creating a flexible learning environment by offering varied learning opportunities Learning aids Computer resources Video resources Putting responsibility back onto the student Tutorials focus on skills Block courses that offer nurse mentorship
